Para 2 CF S90V

Very nice, Jim. How did that S90V treat you when reprofiling? Did you notice a different in the effort required?

Well it was easier than M4. :)

It really wasn't too bad, but then I was using the EP with the 120 Grit Silicone Carbide stone.

I'm very surprised to hear that it was easier to grind than M4 since S90V should have significantly more carbides since it has over twice as much vanadium and a bunch of chromium. The S90V may not be as hard as M4 but that looks at the hardness of the steel and doesn't take into account the carbides which get pushed out of the way in the test. Since many types of carbides are 80+ HRC that is where the wear resistance comes from.

I would be curious to know how hard S90V can get since it also has more carbon than M4.

While not the final word by any stretch, here is some info:

CPM S90V "aim hardness" = RC 56-59

My guess is any harder would begin to have a significant negative impact on toughness...

CPM M4 "typical hardness" = RC 58-65

You'd like this one. My Orange Millie lines up with 14mm on my ruler, but the Para2 is out to ~14.5 or a touch more. I'd just as soon have a 13mm hole and a little more steel. My EDC Endura3 looks to be a clean 12mm.

Excellent... :D

^^^^^Me too.^^^^^ I ordered one from W&W so hopefully that will be coming soon. We'll see. GL to us looking for one.

I just got another backorder notification. Hope I do not miss out on this one!

:grumpy:

Finally Got my Wiha torx driver set from Amazon. Repositioned the clip and tightened up the tension on the bushing screws. Slight side to side blade wobble is now gone. You have to play with it a little to get the pivot tension where you want it, but it's pretty straight forward.

I got another backorder notice from KC! :grumpy: Looks like I may have missed out. Anyone else have a backorder?

I've posted this already on the factory forum, but seems like good news to share so there goes anyway :)

I've noticed some improvments on my Para2 sprint versus the regular version:
- the tab which allows unlocking has been moved a little bit further
- the liner leaf has a cutout, while on the regular model it follows the contour of the spine

while the first one seems to enhance leveradge, I am not sure I understand the second one; maybe the leaf becomes 'more springy'? I can feel that my Para2 sprint locks with more authority than regular G10 version

anyway, great job
I know Spyderco is aiming at Constant Quality Improvment but I didn't expect it on a 3-months old model :)

The G10 Para2 has been out for at least six months. There must have been some reengineering that was necessary before more were released. Why else would you have a six month production delay on the most highly anticipated new/revised model in years?

I could be completely crossing channels in my memory, but didn't someone like Sal post, some while back, that the reason for the production hiatus on the regular version was because they were making changes? The changes first would appear in the CF/S90V sprint and then be rolled into regular production? I could be totally mis-remembering...

That could be right? Where's the scratching head smilie?

I also remember people bringing that up and being told, "No, it's just because there is no production capacity right now."

Yep! Ain't they great! What a way to run a preorder KC!

I got a backorder notice a day or so ago but I also got a notice saying that the one I ordered from W&W has made it thru customs so I should have it in a day or so. I can't wait to get it.

So, any review of that Wiha set? I was planning to purchase the same set.
Rich

Wiha 45598 Torx 3K series screwdriver set. Six piece torx blade chrome-molybdenum vanadium tool steel, hardened, precision black tips. Wiha 3K ergo handle, cushion grip. Set includes T6, T7, T8, T9, T10, and T15.

Here's a scan of two drivers with the Para2 to give you an idea of what they look like. The shafts should be silver with black tips. The Para2 uses the T6 for the clip screws, T8 for the handle screws, and T10 for the pivot screws.

The blue plastic seems like hard polypropylene or some similar plastic. The black stuff is a tacky rubber like plastic. Handles feel great. Ergos work for me. Torx ends fit well in the Paramilitary screws. Felt solid. Not a super tight fit but functional. No drive train slop or wobble. Size markings could have been more prominent. I wrote the size numbers on the ends with a Sharpie so I could find them quicker. Came in a clear vinyl envelope case that I didn't care for much. I think a zip lock freezer bag would work better. If you purchase something else (I got a book) to get the free shipping, the price isn't too bad. Warning for some out there: made in Germany.

Good eye! Would have never noticed! Just looked/compared - Looks like a substantial tooling change for them.
