To start off, before you all go gung-ho spyderco army, let me clarify that this is the Camp perry, limited edition, g10, d2 steel blade griptilian.

So how do these teo knives compare?

i do know that the para 2 is one of the most recommended knives, but i do have some restraints about it.

#1 will the pm2s tip break with moderate use? like i'm talking opening a pop tab, or piercing wood?

#2 is it worth missing out on a limited edition knife?

Different styles of knife. The PM2 is a lot of handle and not so much blade, the Grip is more of the standard setup.

Both are nice knives, but I'm biased towards the axis lock. If you get a grip, check out the Ritter version. The 552-RSK-MK1 Ritter version with the S30V and reasonable price/availability is my favorite version, though the shot show limited ones are pretty sweet if you can find one.

honestly I am more of a spyderco fan but I dont think you could go wrong with either. My only reservation about grips is that norylox handle of which is not an issue here. So, whatever you like the look of more and maybe blade steel. D2 is not stainless and regular pm are s30 so if your going to be in a damp climate. I personally like d2 alot though and with alittle care it doesnt rust that easily. But other than that both of those knives are good tuff knives so like I said whatever one has the look you like more.

I love them both. Grips and the PM2 are my two most carried folders. You won't go wrong. I'd get PM2 if it is a sprint otherwise get the grip. The PM2 is a legend and spyderco isn't going to get rid of it.

I'm left handed and didn't like the compression lock. Maybe it was just the one I handled, but it seemed awkward left handed.

I agree. If you are left handed, the Grip wins. For the unfortunate souls that are not Lefties, I would call it a tie.

One question: where are you guys buying your Para 2's??? I can't find one in stock anywhere! At least not the one I want (black/camo).

Based on how much I've carried/used mine: Mini-Grip > PM2 > Grip
Mini-Grip by a big margin, just due to its size. I'd actually put the PM2 and Grip at a near tie, but the PM2 does carry a little better (slimmer and less obtrusive in the pocket than the large Grip).

para 2 for sheer amazing ergonomics and blade profile. also how well it carries in pocket.

bm for axis lock.

s30v vs d2 is a wash for me, I would choose based on which one is the superior workhorse so spyderco gets it.

I like both knives and don't think you can go wrong either way. FWIW, I'm going to be listing my Camp Perry Griptilian in the exchange tonight for less than I paid for it. Brand spanking new.

Para 2 is great :)
I broke my tip dropping it on my Macbook though
Didn't break my mini griptilian's tip when I did the same thing
I think you'll be okay though.

If you like D2 get the grip.

They are extremely comparable knives in my opinion.

With that being said, why would you open a soda can with a knife? I don't really get it. If you have to use a tool, would the flat head on a SAK make more sense?

If you're really trying to break the MacBook, use a heavier knife...
I hope you have a service policy on that Mac.

p.s. I'm definitely on the side of PM2.

I've had the regular griptilian for about 6 months now and love it...its an awesome knife and i'm sure you couldn't go wrong with a limited edition.
