Para 2 or Manix 2...I'm torn!!!!!

I'll give you the answer i give everyone who asks a question like this. One for each hand.

Guys, don't be angry with me, but i've been throwing my para2. The point is that the compression lock is really really strong- More than 50 throws and there's no blade play at all. 10 throws using my Navaja and the liner is already at 80% to the right side of the blade tang. Oops.
Besides having a smooth and strong lock, the para2 is much lighter, slimmer, and is easier to clean. Manix2 Caged Ball Bearing Lock (CBBL) looks like it'll trap dirt. Get the para2! I wonder why havent u gotten it yet. LOL

I'm going to throw in with the Para 2 camp. I've owned both and still own a couple of Para 2's. The Manix is very popular and has had its 15 minutes of fame lately with all the various releases, but it just didn't do anything for me. I've sold the 3 I have owned and "test drove" as it were. Ultimately only you know your own tastes and I wish you luck in deciding. Both are well made and neither would let you down if that is any consolation.

This thread has made me break out the Manix 2 more often than I did previously and it (being a CTS XHP) is very much like my D2 Kershaws in that it retains that razor sharp edge longer than S30v. I may have to change my stance on this knife and start carrying it more often as I'm starting to dig the ergos and size a lot.

I will have to modify the G10 around cage/button though - I can't stand not being able to open it with either my thumb or finger alone.

and it will stay shaving for a long dam time to.manix is still growing on me to this day I love it more and more. As for the stiffness of the lock, the more you use it the easier it will get. Did you get that video I sent you?also someone stated in this thread its hard use title being dissproven ,spyderco has addressed and fixed this pproblem.

Mine has smoothed out a lot with use. I can disengage it with my just my thumb pretty easily.

Though using thumb and index finger, and letting the blade drop so the choil hits my middle finger is by far the easiest way to do it. It's about the same difficulty level as closing a lockback one handed.

If your talking stock models, then go with the Para. If you can get your hands on a Sprint run Manix, go for it.

Come to think of it, if Spyderco just made the Manix with ffg S30V this would be a no brainer.

I just got a Manix 2 in black it is a beast of a knife, looks are great, ergonomics are great, I would like it with a bit more belly on the blade. But it works great for slicing and cutting. Unfortunately full steel liners which adds weight, not that I really have noticed it but a bit lighter would have been good. It is also completely ambidexterious which I as a lefty appriciate.

I have used it for food prep, cutting different kinds of veggies and salad, salami, cutting boxes, opening plastic bags, sharpening pencils. The hollowgrind is good for slicing I have not had the chance to do some heavier cutting yet but I feel confident in the blades capacity.

I enjoy that I can choke up on the blade since it has an agressive choil. It has a large handle and a medium blade so I think that using it with gloves on if an option.

I am however after one week looking for a new knife mainly since I like knifes and it seems that the Para 2 is an equal. It has some areas in which it is better and some were the Manix 2 is better. My main concerng about the Para 2 is how the compression lock works for a lefty, it seems to be easier to close but I am uncertain of how it feels in the hand.

I say get both, you will most likely end up with them anyway. ;) And if anybody has an opinion on the Para 2 for lefties please let me know.

para 2 for me the manix 2 with all its crazy jimping is way to rough on my hands (i have psoriasis on my hands). other than that it seems nice. although i prefer the para 2s slimness in the pocket.

i'm liking the para 2 that I just got. I have tried to like the manix 2 but it never did click for me. I do keep hearing that the manix 2 is "a beast of a knife". Just curious here but how much stronger is the manix 2 over the para 2?

I agree, the Manix just feels too bulky for the amount of knife you get. But why would the Manix be stronger? Para 2 has G10 with nested liners and a 3.5mm blade. Manix 2 has G10 slabs just bolted on top of liners, and a 3mm blade. I seem to remember Sal saying that the CBBL and comp lock were both heavy duty/MBC rated.
