Hey all! I don't know if this has already been discussed, but I don't see anything recently on the forums (after a quick search, please direct me if it has!).

But para 2s are now going for $155 PLUS on ebay now. Crazy...!! Is there ever going to be a peak for this? I know spyderco will start making them again 2014. But say in August 2013, would a NIB one sell for as much as $200 on ebay? If people are that desperate?

haha, knife addicts are nuts. :P

Cheers!

No way to know what people will pay for these things in the future, as there is a lot of emotion involved in knife buying even though many people don't think of it in those terms. This price tsunami we are currently experiencing is temporary, and the day will come when things will return to "normal". As with ammunition, generators and lots of other stuff, the time to stock up on Para 2's and other knives you dig is before the shortage hits.

Supply and demand. The supply has not caught up to the demand for whatever reason, simple eceonomics.

You don't need to look any further than the BFC exchange to see those prices.

I just recently saw a thread where the guy was selling his blue sprint for $385.
Not sure if he sold it, but more power to him if he did.

I just scored one from Blade HQ with every intention of selling it for a small profit but ended up liking it so much that I decided to keep it.

Never buy high IMO. They will be back at normal price. May be weeks, may be months.

I've noticed this with other models, too, a while ago Police 3's were at $130-140, now they all seem to be at $155-190... wut.

I got interested in them because of the hype at least 15 months ago. At that time there was high demand and they sold very quickly when they hit the exchange, but the prices were much more reasonable then. After the orange and blue sprints came out, and the green ones sold out so quickly, they have become harder to find and the prices have gone up. I'm very tempted to sell my spare.

Indeed, as Rev said, simple economics. I've been fortunate enough to get 2 of them at normal price within the last month. NIB of course.

I still however find myself desiring a third one, preferably the m390 one. No rush though. I love my PM2's though.

Yea as others are saying just simple economics. I got mine brand new from bhq for 100 bucks, shortly after they went up to 120 and the secondary prices on a sought after knife are always higher.

Sold my Brown Para for what I paid.
Then prices jumped $75.

Traded my Blue Para for around $210 value.
Prices went up $100ish.

Oi.

Think yourselves lucky you don't live in Australia. With new laws making importing one-handed openers illegal a standaed PM2 has gone for $1000 on aussie ebay. If you come down here for a holiday bring a suitcase full of Spyderco's LOL.

I hate this because I really want to get my first PM2 but I refuse to pay the unreasonably high prices. What do you mean by they will start making them again in 2014? Have they stopped making them for the rest of 2013? That's a hell of a long time to stop making something that is in such high demand!

I think I saw one go for $88 on the exchange the other day. Sold in less than a minute.

Holy Ciara, $1000... I find it ridiculous that they take it upon themselves to ban the importation of things which are perfectly legal within the country... :thumbdn:

It is a great design...and has some great blade-steels available.
It's my favorite, although I've sold nearly all of them.

They are no longer legal within the country. One hand openers are out down under.

As far as the high prices, guess it's time to start selling the collection. I wonder how many are sitting unused in a safe?

Couple months ago? There were some threads about it. They weren't sure how it was going to work out but the way it was written a one hand opening knife was illegal. Thrustus is from Australia and implied they are indeed illegal. With anything there are people who are willing to break the dumb rules (and not so dumb). They may be legal to own but not carry. I'm sure someone will chime in that knows.

It is not illegal to own a knife such as a Para2, it is only illegal to import them into Australia since Dec 14, 2011. Some sharks are taking advantage of this and asking insane prices on ebay. The one listed for $1000 didn't sell as far as I know, but a digi-cam/black one went for $781 a month or so ago and the Aussie and US dollars are pretty much on par. A more 'reasonable' price, at least by Australian standards, is around the $300 mark. It's supply and demand, and in Australia sadly the supply has dried up other than what is already in the country.

Other recent sales at what are considered 'reasonable' prices down here include:
ZT 560 - $450-$500
ZT 350 - $275-$300
ZT 550 - $320
Enduras - $130-$150
Tenacious - $120

Count your blessings in the US, it's not all bad news (although there's plenty of that)

All I can say is that I hope supply catches up. If I were Spyderco I'd be running para2s at 110%. I assume there is a supplier issue somewhere.
