Para 2 sprint tip up rant

I'm not a fan of the Para, but the general idea of clips mounted in the wrong place on G-10 scales is a non-issue, IMHO. A knife is either bought to use, and the marks left by moving the clip will soon blend in, or purchased as a "collectible", in which case moving he clip reduces potential resale.

I agree- if you aren't going to use the knife and might resell it, then leave the clip where it is from the factory no matter how much you detest tip-up. (and I did that on purpose)

My smurf came tip up.

Came from the factory that way or did a previous owner fool with it? I don't recall ever seeing a photo of a NIB Para2 that wasn't tip-down.

I do find it unusual that Spyderco ships the Para2 tip-down but they ship the GB tip-up. I would prefer my GB to be tip-down but I'm not going to risk ruining the screws and liners to swap the clip.

I'm sure they ship them that way because the original Paramilitary was only tip down, the Military is tip down too, traditionally the millie family of knives has been tip down.

My green came tip up, straight from Knifeworks

How can you ruin anything by switching the clip around? Heck, I couldn't decide whether I liked my pm2 tip up or tip down, and probably switched the clip 5+ times. I bet no one could tell I did it? How hard is screwing something without stripping it? Just sayin..

I'd be able to tell, just sayin. I just notice details, i know i know it's a production knife, but if i am paying more than MSRP i want a perfect model, at least as pristine as they can be. I know not everyone shares my same scrutiny for knives, some people purely see knives as tools, and marks here and there are no bother. I am a little odd to others but in my head i am just right :D.

Those who desire flawless collector knives should wear a new pair of knit cotton gloves when they remove the knife from the box and inner bag to inspect it. If it passes inspection, carefully replace it, first in the bag, then the box. Still with gloves on, carefully place box into climate controlled vault and secure the door. You may now exhale.

Don't be afraid of swapping clip on the GB, mine has been apart many many times with zero issues. Get a nice fitting t6 and they'll come right out. Camo/DLC-Blue/M390-Green/204P-Orange/XHP all came tip down for me from dealers. Easiest thing to do is never pay msrp or over it.

I don't touch mine so I can't speak from personal experience. I have however observed MANY threads with people saying that they stripped their tools and/or the screws just trying to remove screws from a Spyderco. I have also observed many Spyderco knives for sale on the exchange that say they have stripped liners. This all tells me that there is more to it than just unscrewing a doorknob.

Indeed.:)
Might I add dust mask, hair net and sanitized haz.mat. coverall.
Cheers

Factory, all my spyderco knives are new.

This is certainly the exception to the rule. The 3 new ones that I have seen in person were all tip-down. I did a google image search for Paramilitary 2 and of the many images found very few show tip-up and those few appear to be owners images posted to forums and such. The images I found that appeared to come from retail websites all showed tip-down.

(And today I'm carrying my GB tip-up because that is the way IT came to me from the factory.)

I recommend the Benchmade "Blue Box" torx/driver set, safely removed all manners of "delicate" screws from pricey Spyderco's/BM's and KAI stuff with zero problems.

I can second that, seems to be of higher quality than the Kobalt/Husky set.
