Para 3 vs Bugout

New to the forum and figured I'd throw in my 2 cents. Haven't had experience with either, but my Spyderco PM2 has been a tank of a blade. I checked out some youtube reviews of the Bugout, and a few mentioned the sturdiness... Seen that theres a lot of flex in the handle and blade. I dont put much "force" behind cuts but if I did, I know my PM2 could handle it without flexing and feeling like it will snap in half. Again, I'm going by YouTube and not hands on evaluation of the bugout.

I'd choose a compression lock over an axis lock ten times out of ten, so I'd definitely go with the Para3, and the Lightweight would be the the model for me.

I'm the opposite, I have piles of Spyderco knives but I've never warmed to the fiddly compression lock at all. I'd take AXIS > compression eleven times of ten because apparently math isn't my thing. ;)

Knifecenter has a new Bugout variant announced recently, incidentally:

I like the axis lock and the compression lock. Two of my favorites. The Spyderco compression lock and the Cold Steel triad lock are the best on the market ,in my opinion.
I ve never handled a PM3 but I got a chance to handle a Bugout yesterday. I reminds of a sturdy BM 531. The one I held was well put together and very light. Actually lighter than I need or prefer. A folder that is sub 3 ounces makes me question its strength for use in moderate work. I don t know about the lwt PM3, but with my high regard for the PM2, I bet the PM3 with g10 is a fine 3 inch knife.

That’s RIT dyed I am sure. Someone else can probably help with the exact dye color. It would probably be your cheapest option, honestly. And you’ll get a great knife.

So could I RIT dye the scales it comes with? Will you tube how to do it

Well there’s another one I keep looking at, the cold steel recon 1 all be it a little large maybe, and can that be handles one hand open and close?

I love this debate, Para3 vs. Bugout, but I'm still on the fence... Good thing Benchmade doesn't have as many sprint runs with different blade steels like Spyderco does! For those of you who love your Bugouts, replace the OEM PB washers (0.02" x 0.189" x 0.317") with a larger outer diameter size ones (0.02" x 0.189" x 0.50"), makes a world of difference and totally eliminates any blade play from side-to-side. I did this with the RoqueWorks, Putman and Flytanium aftermarket scales and am loving the results... Next set of experimentations will be with the LW Para3...

My new bugout showed up today, quick adjustment of the pivot (they send them super tight to Canada because of knives laws) and BAM nice smooth action.

No blade play, perfect centering and super light.

Don't have a para 3 lightweight but do have a g10 one and think this bugout will be getting more pocket time.

W&W from Vancouver?

Try usaknifemaker.com, I ended up purchasing a whole bunch of different size PB and Teflon washers for future uses...

Small Town I guess? People are always surprised when they see our Canadian Tire sells sakos and bellis as well
