How do I know if I have the good stuff, and not junk. Where is the best place to get it. I need to order some, and do not want to screw up and waste my $$. Any help would be appreciated. :)

Thanks,
Dave.

If you don't have time to shop around, countycomm has the "good stuff." There are several grades but the Holy Grail - "550 Cord" should be listed as such. For most practical purposes, and if you want some "color" in your life, 450 cord is OK too and is available in non-tactical colors. You just want to make sure it's just not some cheesy string someone is calling "paracord." Look specifically for "550 cord." I am sure there are other resources too. Anything over $6/100' and you shuld continue to shop. Bigger quantities yield somewhat better prices.

Supplycaptain.com has a great selection and has always taken care of me.

Edit: Jeff - is that a typo in your signature line? Two s's in Bushcraft? Not trying to be a spelling nazi - just trying to help.

when you cut open the real deal. It has several seperable strands of cord. Not so with imitation "nylon braided cord"

Thanks for all of the replies. I will be ordering sometime this weekend.
Dave.

I need new glasses but that'll cost as much as two or three knives.:grumpy:

Thanks, man. I'll get that fixed.

I went with supply captain, and it is already here. Great service and products. Thanks, All.
Dave.

Yeh - Ive only ever used supplycaptain, any international guys reading this he really steps up for international orders. Paid for one of the cheaper shipping options and was in Australia in 2-3 days.

i think the general rule is that it has to have 7 inner strands to be official 550 cord and the 550 is in referance to its 550 pounds of tensile strength.

best thing since duct tape
