Para cord

Somewhere with international shipping at a reasonable price would be good (you wouldn't believe how dear it is locally if I can even find it).

It's OK - I've put an order through to Going Gear which was pretty easy since I have bought from them before so my account details were already setup.

I have ordered about 7 x 100' of paracord - I've never owned paracord before, I suppose I'll have to learn how to tie good knots and other useful skills now.

Rope has a million uses and is fun to learn how to tie knots with, not sure what else you tie knows with though lol. I've used it to hang a tarp over my tent, put food up a tree so beers wouldn't get it, and some other random things.

Any good knot tying books that someone could recommend? I'd prefer one that has good illustrations.

Not sure on what book to get, but definitely check out this site: http://stormdrane.blogspot.com/ This blog has a ton of cool things made out of paracord. Haven't checked it out in months and months and just saw the pouches he is making. Not always that instructive, though very cool at the least.

Thank you for the link riz, that is very cool! I will be taking on some paracord projects soon! Especially the survival bracelet idea, how cool is that?

There are so many cool things you can do with paracord. I have a bracelet sitting around some where, maybe in a old backpack at home. It looks cool and can come in handy when you could use a few feet of cord. I want to make belt out of the stuff since that would be cool and would be like 100 feet of cord lol.

Haven't experienced that yet. I have some neon green para cord right here with 7 strands. Where did you order from and have you ordered other colors from the same place? Not sure if it just varies due to the store and what they stock or colors in general.

I bought it at a local surplus store. I'm going back to check out their other colors in a few days.

Thanks for the link. I'm really liking this thread. I too would be interested in making a paracord belt. The bracelets too like really cool.

Some paracord that is marketed as 7 strand -actually has 6 strands and one pathetic excuse for a seventh strand.

Another  for Supply Captain. I have purchased from them in the past on a few occasions for paracord and have been very happy.

I've been replacing a lot of my paracord lanyards and zipper pulls lately with this nice 3mm static line that has reflective fibers in it that I found at my local outdoor gear store. I've found it to be plenty strong enough, though a tad stiffer than the paracord, but the reflective properties make finding tools and gear at night so much easier

All the colors of para cord I use is 550 seven strand. There is differences in it,side by side you can tell the difference between the Mil spec and the non spec.It does seem to me that even the non spec is still very strong.I do not want to call it fake as it is still 550 cord but just not used in those colors by the military.
The stuff county com sells is the very good stuff, most all the colors Supply Captain sells is the real deal too.
I have 21 different colors hanging on the wall behind me right now.

i just bought some acu gray from county comm. they also sell the cord ends and whatnot too. those can come in handy when working with paracord.

All of my 550 paracord comes from Supply Captain. I highly recommend them.

And another  for Stormdranes Blog, unbelievable talent that guy has.

Not trying to hijack your thread, but has anybody had any experience with *gasp* cheaperthandirt.com's paracord? 300' for $13+s/h doesn't seem too bad if it's decent...

I keep a 1000' ft spool of 550 7strnd around for kits and what not and tons of various colored for handle wraps and other things.
