Hey all,
I just got my new Spydie Para military in the mail yesterday and was extremely impressed with the blade, ergos, etc., but I've noticed the lock is extremely stiff when trying to close the blade. It really requires a lot of pressure and when the liner finally does give way, it's with a fairly loud metallic "click". I've already got a blister on the tip of my index finger from working with it. Think I should send it in to Spyderco, or does anyone know if this will become broken in?

Thanks,
Jon

Take a pencil and shade in the contact area where the liner meets the tang. That should work from then on. DO NOT put oil on it.

It's an old trick that seems to work just about every time. I have no idea who thought of it.

Thanks Phil, I'll try that. Oh and by the way, did that guy cure you of your "mall ninja affliction"????;) Don't think he really got that post.

Every Spydie I've had has taken a little while to break in. Play with it for a while. It'll loosen up and you'll become more proficient opening it. Take the time to become familiar with it and it'll become your best friend.

I wasn't sure if it was just me that didn't get what he was saying:confused:. Let me know how that pecil thing works.

The pencil should make it better, but if the Para is anything like the SS ATR the lock will always feel a little sticky. It's just the nature of the beast.

Hey guys,
The pencil trick worked a little bit, and thanks to those who echoed that the lock will be stiff for a while, maybe always. I'd rather know that than send it all the way to Spyderco and get it back the same way! That could be DAYS of carrying time wasted:eek:
