para-milli washers

Hi there, I recently notice some flex in the pivot of my para's blade, no slop just slight flex, I disassembled the knife and noticed the pivot washers are rather small maybe 1/2" at the most.....looks like lager washers would fit in there and make the knife less flexy, I am obsessive I guess, any thoughts on this?

Did you get all four washers back in?

Send it back to Spyderco, sounds like it wasn't properly re-assembled.

Para's should be as smooth as silk, with tight lockup, mine are. ;)

I have 4 washers, 2 on each side, as seen below.

I had the exact same problem with my military. Send it in to Sal and the gang, they should have you sorted out in no time.

Surely that is very unusual. Of my 30 odd folders all have 1 washer per side, otherwise they would just use thicker washers.

You are either yanking our chains(and I have fallen for it) or you have a special "freak knife" that technically could be more advanced than ours:cool:

Lycosa, there really is nothing to see other than whats immediately viewable. Very simple but excellent design.

Well, if it's a freak knife, it's not alone. I just reached over and grabbed my D2 Para, and lo and behold, four washers! Perhaps that's the key to the silky-smooth action. I wonder what the coefficient of friction is for beryllium-copper sliding against itself.

I'm not a chain yanker. And never insult my Para like that.:p:D

Kidding aside, this is how it was received from Spyderco, and it's a collector's run model. I haven't touched it.

I still love my D2 Para but it does feel somewhat inferior now, with only 2 washers and all :(

I apologize to all the freaks out there for calling you freaks but I have to say you are kind of freakish......in a good way of course :D

Is it these 4 washers that make it smooth and lock up tight?
I just got my para a month ago. It's the smoothest spyderco I own. smoother than my military.

you guys who have 4 washers, have you actually opened it up? I noticed my d2 para looks to have 4, but it's the reflection of the washer in the liner, opened it and it only has 2

I haven't opened mine, but I am looking at it right now with a jewelers loop and it has 4 washers.

Sorry if I created washer envy:p:D

lol, I know this will sound combative, but really I am just curious.

took out my 30x jewelers loop, still looks like four washers. in fact, it looks even more like it has 4 washers, but there are only 2.

the liners are so polished they are like mirrors.

Hmmm:confused:, I'll be right back...

edit- didn't take mine apart, but it looks like my D2 has only one per side. The reflection on liners did fool me for a second.

No worries:)

It really doesn't matter how many washers there are, be it 2 or 4, the OP should return his knife to Spyderco because something obviously isn't right.

my camera isn't the greatest

EDIT: To add that my Para is the Digicamo, which is the latest version, maybe that means something? I'm not taking it apart to find out though, this is the smoothest folder I've had and it feels as nice, if not nicer, than a Sebenza.

Just looked at my d2 para and it appears to have 4, but looking through my 10X loupe it actually is only 2 washers. The shiny reflection makes it look like that there are 4.
