So real stupid question... With the para 2 (or almost any spyderco) in general... Is or common to use the back of the thumbnail to deploy the blade ie the thumb goes in more so it kinda rolls off the thumbnail or kinda push the blade out using kinda the top half of the pad of the thumb?

It's all up to you, but I prefer the middle finger flick. If I have gloves on, I just use the pad of my thumb. There's at least four or five ways to open a Paramilitary 2.

I don't have a para 2 but I have other spydies. On mine, I push my thumb in and use my nail. It seems to open more reliably, I think it allows more force from the thumb.

i use the middle finger flick method, holding it in your right hand, put your middle finger in the hole from behind (...............) and then flick outward and up at the same time, almost like you're opening your hand out, i find it more convenient(and tactical) than the thumb flick method

I just put my thumb on the hole and open the knife. It works very well, is reliable and controlled all the way to full lockup. Like was said, there are multiple ways to open this model, but the positive nature of thumb pad flesh engaged in that large opening hole gets my vote.

Thanks for all the responses. Ive come to find the middle finger flick works best for me imho...:-D

I don't know what's wrong with me but I can't seem to get this down. My other fingers get in the way as I try to do this. Also, with a regular thumb flick, if I don't add a little wrist action, the blade doesn't always open fully. I'll flick it open with my thumb and it goes about half way most of the time. I think I need to get my flick direction down. Guess I just need to break in the knife, get some practice?

Try to have your ring and pinky finger fully extended while your middle finger is ready to fire the blade out. With the way your hand works, the middle finger won't flick as hard unless these fingers are straight. Plus, they won't get in the way.

Please disregard if you already do this.

I use my index finger. Same method as using your middle finger but I feel my hand is in perfect position to cut with the index right away .

I find this usually happens when you are trying to push "out" instead of "up". Put your nail in the hole and flick straight up like you're shooting a marble. That blade should come firing out.
