I just couldn't wait the 1-2 months for the black blade digi camo so I ordered up a satin with black g10.. Waited like a kid on Xmas all weekend nabbed it out of the mailbox on the way into work.... And it took all of one quick glimpse to see the tip was ground harder on one side than the other... Like I can tell one side angles far into where it should have met in the center... This is my 2nd spydie and the sucker is insanely sharp but for 120 bucks seems the grinds should be even.. I'll post a picture off my phone if I can take a good one.. Should I contact spyderco?

It's "insanely sharp" use one of the BEST knifes out there and don't think anymore about it. At $120 you will not get any better.

The knife doesn't sound defective. If you are going to use and are able to sharpen it when necessary then put the knife to use.
If it is for display then you might want to ask your dealer to trade it for a cleaner copy, but either way it doesn't sound like something that requires warranty work.

I'm in the group of members with a small collection and 120 on a knife IS a lot too me.. Being 25 with a house 3 vehicles and a girlfriend spending anything on a hobby is hard that is why I ask.. It will get use but nothing heavy I have beaters for, I'm anal about my things and the only down side is I have virtually 0 sharpening experience beyond an edgemaker (the v style rod type) so keeping a sharp factory edge Is doable but resharpening or profiling isn't an option

After looking close with good light I can tell a slight difference in the grind heighth from one side to the other.. Almost like when the edge was put on it was slightly too hard all the way on one side and not enough on the other... thanks a million for the input guys its appreciated

My PM2 came the same way yours did. Off center. I liked the knife so much I just shrugged off the imperfection and when I sharpened it on my Sharpmaker I evened the sides out pretty much. I think that perfection in the grind is a rarity. Close, but no cigar. Others chime in here. Have you seen more "on" or more "off".

Only 1/2 of the knives that I have owned have had a perfect edge grind. Price does not matter. Ive had a cryo that was perfect. My Sebenza is amazing and i just fixed that edge too. It was about 19/22. Learn to sharpen and re profile your knives slightly. It is worth it and does not take much time.
My experience with spyderco has been very good. My manix XL is my first insane perfect grind at 15 per side roughly.

My absolute worst was 15/25 on a Cold steel AK. I still loved and used the heck out of it. And one month later it was re profiled to an even 20/20

I've been looking at a sharpmaker but I can't afford the edge pro or any of those expensive systems.. I might go to a couple local gun shops or something to see how much to pay for sharpenings.. Its not slightly off on mine.. At the tip the one edge angles right to where the other starts coming in if that makes sense.. Like I said it is the sharpest knife out of the box I've purchased a slight unevenness wouldnt bother me but when u can hold it down by your waist and see it still its very noticable

I trust and use a sharpmaker and get better results than most guys I know with the expensive systems.
Get some 1000 or 800 grit sandpaper and use double sided tape to attach a strip to the rods and you can re-profile in one evening with a little patience. Or free hand on a diamond or against the rods. That works as well.

Sorry to hear that BigRob, it's a pet peeve I suffer from as well but I have the tools and skills to correct---came with time though. Just use caution about some offering "professional" knife sharpening services. Let's just say a little homework about the said "professional" will pay great dividends

Some times the "professional" should never handle a knife let alone sharpen one. I think some youtube "how to" vids will yield much better results for you---just saying.

But, like you already know, the Para 2 is such a terrific knife .

All the best...

Paul

All spyderco's and any quality knife are hand sharpened for the final bevel and will vary. Be happy it's not done by machine. A slightly uneven bevel will not effect functionality.

I have 6 PM2's, and I think 1 of them is what you could call "perfect" (or as close as one could get). The other 5 knives' evenness range from "barely noticeable" to "pretty noticeable." In my experience, even handmade completely custom blades are not always "perfect" when it comes to the grind.

Awesome thanks for all the input fellas.. I do feel like I could whittle a hair with it but it was still bugging me so I appreciate all the positive replies.. I wouldn't ever trust one of my babies to someone until I see their work.. Only thing about my edgemaker is I believe its set at 22.5 degree total is that a good profile.. I always just use it for my users I havent had the balls to try and sharpen my marbles or benchmades on it tho

Sounds ok to me.

My sebenza had uneven grind near tip and heel too. You should of seen the one I denied...

I guess I'm just a noob all the blades I have are pretty much even to the naked eye this was the first I'd ever seen like this which sparked the red flag

Just checked amazon looking at other spydies.. seen the same para2 I just bought 2 left in stock for 145... I just paid 118 less than a week ago! I guess I got a good deal

I noticed that my new second generation Manix 2 was a little uneven too.

It really doesn't bother me because the first thing I'm going to do is sharpen any knife I get. There is no way they could spend the time I'm going to and keep the price reasonable.

I started out with the Ken Onion WorkSharp and evened out the bevel. Then used the SharpMaker for the final touch.

My recent PM2 is the same exact way, and sharp as a laser.
That doesn't bother me as much as blade wobble or a non centered blade.
I'll correct it when it's dull enough to require an Edge Pro sharpening.

There is a ton of good advice available on sharpening, but my feeling is that anybody that owns knives will be much happier when they become proficient enough at sharpening that that they aren't tempted to pay somebody else to do it. You might not feel confident in your ability to re-profile, but that is much better than the outrage you'd feel if somebody took a grinder to your knife trying to "fix" it. Find a dirt cheap knife to practice on and become comfortable with sharpening, and then clean up the bevels on your Spydie. I personally feel that everybody should learn how to free hand, because if you know that skill you can pretty much sharpen whatever you need to wherever you might be with whatever is at hand.

If you get the Sharpmaker, get the diamond rods for it az well. It makes re-profiling so much easier than with just the brown coarse stones. The consistency and evenness of my edges have gone up three-fold since using the diamond stones.
