I know we had a thread recently on leather lanyards on traditional knives but my newest knife got me curious as to what traditional knives you folks have that have been outfitted with a paracord lanyard. I always thought that on traditional knives leather was the only choice, However when I got my new Hayin' Helper I thought it just begged for a paracord lanyard so I made this one for it yesterday. So let's see what you folks have tied a paracord lanyard to. I know you've got them so show them off!

A very simple lanyard on this beer scout but it helps me fish the knife out of a pocket sheath :).

I think it looks great on a knife leather for some para for others I belive it depends on the style and material of the knife as to which one or any at all

I like leather, but paracord is my go-to. It's just easier to work with, and there have been MANY times I've unraveled a paracord lanyard to make a repair or tie something up.

Does this count? My lovely wife tied this on and I don't have the heart to tell her I don't like it. Looks good , right everybody? ;)

I'm still a neophyte to paracord lanyards but I picked up a few hundred feet in various colors/styles I want to braid for some of my more unique or interesting knives with bails/lanyard holes. I'm also figuring out the ways of the leather lace lanyard, though I have none photographed yet. The last photo with the demo knife is my first attempt at an actual braid using the king cobra knot. My second, a snake knot wrist loop, has not gone smashingly well and is currently marked "in progress/on hold". :D

Paracord is just so easy to use. Additionally you can have a wide variety of colors to choose from.

They look like fobs to me.
What am I missing ?? English is not my prime language afterall.

You're correct in that fobs are usually the smaller version as seen in many of the pics. Lanyard and fob are kind of used interchangeably though from what I've seen.

Here's a small one I put on this Menefee so I could pull it out of the sheath easier since it rides real low.

Same Dowell Trapper from above that came with this one. I have another made using the inner strands of paracord as well but don't have a pic yet of it. (not made by me)

Yep, short and handy is a fob, like this, what I nic named a Bob tail fob, just enough with that diamond knot to be able to hook your pinky around to help draw the knife from the sheath, the black thread before the knot is some heavy thread used to make what's called whipping, tying the two strands together so they don't flop around.

On folders I will whip the two strands close to the handle so that the fob or lanyard can't move around the end to get into the path of the blade.

Knife is made by Dave Ferry aka Horsewright on the forums, it's his California Coyote model with elk horn scales, pretty nice knife too :)

I do love paracord for its utility and pizazz (all the colors) but a good leather tether on a knife looks great too. the ones I've seen with a snap on the end for hooking onto a belt loop or key holder are fantastic. I don't have any lanyard capable trads except my mora, which I made this for. It can hang around neck, under a shoulder, or as I've got it now, wrapped for sticking in a pocket

Yep, the whipping certainly makes a difference, hate when they flop around like that :) Here's a shot of my Pioneer with a Lanyard on there;

and when you put the lanyard over your hand, I just found these nice celtic beads that the paracord just fits through, so you can cinch it up to make it snug around your wrist, which gives a more confident carry, you can let the folder hang down while you grab something else and then get it again, not good with the blade open, but in this case a screwdriver or other tool works great.

Great examples, Gary! How do you tie off the thread so that it doesn't start to unravel? On some of these shorter lanyards/fobs I do like to let the two strands stay separate, almost forming a loop that gets tied off at the end. This is key on fixed blades with short handles, you can easily use it as a pinky loop for added security and control. On folders, it's often better to treat the two strands as one, and this is a great way to do it...assuming I can get it to stay in place. :D
