I'd never heard of bank line until this thread. Is the line "tarry?" Is tar going to get on my other gear? Does it have a smell?

Paracord vs. Bank Line

The black bank line does feel a bit tacky and tarry, it doesn't tend to get tar on your hands or gear though and doesn't have any particular smell. If you prefer it untared you can get it in a nylon green in the same spools. I've used it for years for trot lines, camping and pretty much anything that needed to be tied. It is what you commonly see on hollow handle knives as well. You can also get a 500ft spool from academy sports and outdoors for about 8 bucks as well.
The top knife is wrapped with bank line #36 and the bottom is wrapped in 2mm paracord to give you a size comparison.
