Just had a harrowing experience with my Paragon Heat Treat oven. I set the temperature for 415 degrees and went inside the house to let my blade temper for 2 hours. When I returned to pull out my blade the temperature was reading 501 degrees.

After a bit of research, I found out what went wrong. My garage temperature was well below freezing and the sentry programmer could not a acuratley read the firing chamber temperature. The Paragon troubleshooting page states that you should only operate the kiln when room temperatures are 32 a 100 degrees.

It's too cold to hear treat ... That's cold!

How long did you allow the oven to stabilize before putting the blade in for temper? Was the oven stabilized at 500F? OR was it swinging up ' n down in temperature. Your shop must be COLD!! You are too far north! Here I've been complaining about night temps getting down to 32F a couple times this winter.

The oven usually stabilizing after climbing to around 430 degrees than coming down to 415. Tonight's wind chills are to be 15 below.

I haven't had problems with my evenheat. My shop gets in the 20 often. The lows are going to be about -15 before windchills.

Cody - that's COLD anyway you slice it. That's why I live South of I-10 here on the coast. I complain when the temps fall in low 30's at night!!

I'd find something else to do if my shop was that cold.

But I usually just get a fire goin in the wood stove...
