Paragon Sportinggoods in NYC

The last time I was there they had some Tighe's. Cant remember too many others but they had a good cross section.

I didn't think EMS carried customs. Do they?

Hate to tell you guys this, but EMS went out of business. I went there last week to pick up a key-chain knife, and the whole store was gone. Inside was EMPTY!

Tony, when'd you work there? I think the Blanks actually own that building. But I can only imagine the astronomical costs of running an operation like that. As well, they mark everything up...LOL
Mid to late 80s. Think about 75% of my paycheck went back to Paragons. That employee discount sure came in handy. 8-)

I think only the 59th-60th street store on broadway near Fordham U, John Jay and NYIT closed down.

the one down on 591 broadway closed down also. the one in soho.

I don't see any way EMS as a business would shut down. Individual stores, sure, but it's too big well-respected to shut down.

I thought there was one on the island. Still, they sold customs? I would be surprised. Could be the NYIT Westbury I'm thinking of.
Thought it was more up around Glen Cove though.

Good to know the entire company didn't go out of business..... just the stores closest to me.:grumpy:

But the one near John Jay College never had any customs. Their knife display was actually quite small. Mostly, every variety of Leatherman tools, CRKT (a few models), literally a couple of Benchmade and Spyderco models. Unless you wanted a Leatherman tool for a reasonable price, you went downtown to Paragon's first.

The EMS on the island is on Glen Cove Rd. Just north of Roosevelt Field Mall. I haven't been there in a while so I cant say they are still there. I have never seen more then 4 or 5 knives there and no customs. Mostly a couple of Bucks a couple of Gerbers and some multitools. I will be in that area tomorrow so I will look to see if they are still open.

I went to the site yesterday. They still list the stores that have been reportedly closed down so I'm not sure if it's updated.

I was in EMS on B'Way and Prince today...that one is still there.
The uptown store near Columbus Circle closed in Mid January past.
Just mere months after I got a job in the neighborhood :(

American Outdoor Sports had some good knives last time I was there.
Rt 110 Mid Island...between Huntington and Amityville.

If you are going to look at Long Island, there are a few spots. T and T gunnery in Seaford on Merrick road has the largest selection on the Island. He sell all the major brands ( including automatics to LEOs). He has six large glass counters of knives. Marty is the owner ,and prices are good. Ameriacn outdoor has a good selection, but no where near TandT. There is a small knife shop on Sunrise Highway most likely in Seaford called Swords and things. He has a fairly good display, about 30% quailty stuff. The rest are small shops with not much. There is Tri County Flea MArket on Hempstead turnpike in Levittown. The two girls who own this also own Guenine Issue in Suffork County , and they have a good selection of various knives. They are a little pricey. They have bought out a old dealers supply of the old Westbury sales knives ( which I have bought several of). These are the old Japanese stuff from the 1960s-1970s. Not great stuff , but NIB condition and full of memories for me.....

TNT rocks. One of the guys at the store is always at the Strider booth during NYCKS.
And EMS..they really don't have anything and what they do is WAY over priced

EMS sucks down on broadway. The store is like an urban camping store and everything is overpriced.

Paragon was alot better and i had a good time today. spent about 2 hours handaling knives and talking to the knife salesment, we even spinehwakced some blades and such.

a good time.

Damn, you're lucky you got the knife salesman! All I got was a know-nothing drone, and that took ten minutes!

Yes, it is an urban camping store and yes, it is in Manhattan and yes, they do pay Manhattan rent.

Well, this is why you couldn't get any help, Vhp was wasting peoples time again.

If your looking at the BM's there, look over them carefully, VHP had a 2 hour run beating them into a elevator with that same salesmens help.
Wonder what BM would say about their store front saels outlet, if they knew thier salesmen were now into abusing knifes with this vhp.

I would think the company should be notified to prevent further warranty abuses through their store front buy this clown.
