Paramili CPM D2

IMO much of the Tip down vs tip up argument depends on where you carry your knife, and whether the spine sits against the seam of the pocket.
I.e: Tip down works great RRP not RFP and like wise tip up works well RFP not RRP.

My personal carry preferences are:

Work knives : RRP tip down carry essential.
General edc : RRP or IWB tip down preferred but not essential
Dress: anything goes but usually IWB or loose in pocket.

FWIW I do not buy liner locks which are tip up only.

Bo

Any way dont you know that real men carry Tip down :D

Like the others said great knife and great price. I have 2 of them and if they were lefty carry they would be my favorite. I have used one of them over and over and never had to touch the blade. It keeps an excellent edge. Best 100 bucks you will ever spend!

I do not wish to hijack but I just had to ask. If I had a D2 Para I wouldn't sell it if the clip were perpendicular to the handle:eek:...I don't think.

With the Para, the blade tang sticks so far out that it would dig into my palm whenever I reached into my rfp. It was very uncomfortable and I couldn't put anything else in my pocket, so I ditched it for a cf Stretch. What do you do with knives that arnt quite right for you?

My Military in CPM D2 tested out at 62 RC, so Spyderco really put a great heat treat on the blade. Mine gets very sharp easily and holds it's edge better than S30V (most of my Spydercos in S30V have tested out at 59 RC) in my experience. You definately got a great deal for $100 on the CPM D2 Para, that's a great knife at a great price.

Well I do just what you did...sell it. I was just trying to get to the bottom of the tip orientation question which has always puzzled me. I have not encountered any issues with the variation. For some reason I was thinking there was a safety issue or something...or deployment speed which doesn't concern me. I have sold a lot of knives in fact and guess what? I used the money to buy new ones...yay. So selling part I fully understand having been rather successful myself in doing same.

Sell 'em. There are too many other great knives out there to waste dollars and space on knives that don't suit me personally. And, of course, that doesn't mean it isn't a great knife - just that it's not a great knife for me.

The exposed tang in mine came rounded and smooth from the factory!

That would be a P2, no? Doesn't sound like the P1 I've got or others I've seen but I might be misunderstanding.

Still my all time favorite modern folder!

Def not a p2 !! It's the d2para I posted pics of !! I'll take a closer pic so u can see that it's not sharp at all ! This is how the knife came straight from spyderco ...

I own three para's two s30v (one SE, one PE) and the D2. I love em all but has anyone else noticed how smoother the d2 version is? It's almost like they used different washers. The fit and finish is a step up on my s30v models. Is it just me?

No, it's not just you. But I've only handled one regular production model vs. three D2 sprint run Paras. All three D2's were amazingly smooth. I really regret selling mine, all three seperate times:o. I really needed the money at those times, though, and they are a quick and easy sell.

Same here, amazingly smooth. The only knife I have owned smoother was a T-Mag for obvious reasons.

I got one a while ago but just started to play around with it, mine actually has pretty bad up and down blade play, still a nice knife though! Super smooth and great ergos. I will probably send it in too get tuned up. Is it normal to have up and down wiggle in the blade?

Some folks have reported vertical blade play with their Paras. I havent noiticed it in the 4 I've owned. But then I'm not cranking on it either. Why MAKE blade play?

Some also believe its the comp lock that's the culprit.

...but I don't think that blade play, while annoying, affects the safety or reliability of the compression lock.
