Paramilitary 2 (defect?)

Ugh. Dude, it's a $100 production knife. There will be little mistakes. Get over it.
This thread should be closed. It offers no discussion.

In my mind this is a defect! It looks horrible! Spyderco should fix this issue! Its like buying a new car with a couple of spots were they decided not to paint on the hood!

More like a car with machining marks on the underside of the hood...
Look at what you get for just over $100:
An American made knife with a compression lock, s30v steel, nested liners, and a fantastic warranty. Pretty darn good. Making it cosmetically perfect would make it significantly more expensive.

I would advise you to never buy an Emerson. The whole of the liners are covered with tooling marks and they cost twice as much. Doesn't matter though because they are tools that do their job extremely well.

Okay I see what your saying, but if the two little marks weren't there the knife would be flawless!

If they were so close to flawless perfection why did they stop short and not fix to 2 little issues? It would have been a simple fix! Right?

Yep I'm OCD as well (lol) as most of you probably already know!
You should return the knife, it will make you feel better.
I got the exact same variation as yours and I love it. I could care less about some marks on the inside of the liners that have zero effect on the functionality of the knife, I am not going to put it ina glass case after all.

Oh jeez. Throw it at a brick wall, you won't care about those "imperfections" in the liners afterwards. Are you going to use it? Or just put it in a drawer and wipe it down with a cloth diaper once in a while?

I see this is a touchy subject around here!

You purchased a tool not a Nic nac to sit in a curio go out and use it as a tool. There is no reason to complain and make videos and post if it doesn't effect the function of the knife.

If they were so close to flawless perfection why did they stop short and not fix to 2 little issues? It would have been a simple fix! Right?

It's one issue really, they are the marks from the liners being cut out of a sheet of steel. Spyderco is trying to keep the cost down and adding a production process would increase the cost. People would be complaining about the high price instead of the marks on the liners.

I can see how it would upset you at first to find an imperfection on a knife that is so great, but after using it for a while you won't care one bit.

First of all, welcome to Bladeforums. I wouldn't want anyone accusing me falsely of being discourteous to a new member. Now that we have that out of the way, here are some suggestions, honest but friendly suggestions. By the way, I own 23 Paras, you haven't begun to know what OCD is bro. So let's have a look and address some of your complain.

In my mind this is a defect! It looks horrible! Spyderco should fix this issue! Its like buying a new car with a couple of spots were they decided not to paint on the hood!
Maybe your perception is defective or something else. The knife is not.i highly recommend that if you are displeased, send it back to the place of purchase and buy something else ASAP.
It's a good knife but come on, they could have fixed the two obvious issues! Factory or not!
No, it's actually a great knife. If it wasn't I wouldn't own almost 2 dozen. Again, there really is nothing to fix.
Yep I'm OCD as well (lol) as most of you probably already know!
I think it goes a bit deeper than that actually. You may or may not have other issues compounding your self diagnosed "OCD"
Thanks for the rude comment ;)
You seem to argue and rile people up, and yet you know so very little about what you are actually talking about.
I see this is a touchy subject around here!
If you come into a forum and insist that your perception of something is legitimate, despite being told the opposite by a dozen people already (including myself), it's a bit trolling yes. We don't like trolls.
The liners are perfect on my sage 1! Just saying!
The Sage is made in different country, about as far as you can get from Golden Co. What is your point? Is there one to this comment you made. i don't know.
Okay I see what your saying, but if the two little marks weren't there the knife would be flawless!
You know, production knives have all sorts of problems real and perceived (like yours). You should move straight into the full custom arena. You pay for the makers full attention to detail. Tat might be a bad idea, those aren't perfect either. Don't know what to tell ya, sorry.
If they were so close to flawless perfection why did they stop short and not fix to 2 little issues? It would have been a simple fix! Right?
Why not make a better knife yourself? Show em how it's done.

As it has been said, it is not a defect, simply where the laser started and stopped in the process of cutting out the liners. The liners are nested, so they do not need to be finished to a high shine a la the Sage 1 whose liners are visible. Finishing the liners to the point where the start/stop point isn't visible would add unnecessary cost to the knife.

Drnoob, perhaps Spyderco knives just aren't for you. They are more performance oriented than looks. In fact, it's a source of pride with some of us. I'd much rather have them worry about performance oriented issues and keep costs down by leaving unneeded parts unfinished or unpolished. I also think your attitude will get you some remarks no matter which forum you post on. You were treated pretty respectfully compared to some I frequent where insults are an art form and thick skin is required.

There are plenty of perfect looking but low performing knives available for less money if that's your thing. Spyderco is more for the types who are OCD about performance if anything, not trivial imperfections.

Here is an Idea, I live by this one.
If you don't like it that much. Sell it. And move on.
I sold a car after six months because I did not like
how it shifted from 1st to 2nd. And got another one.

People as picky as you should handle and inspect thoroughly before purchasing. Then you will get what you want.

I can't tell if this is a bid for more YouTube account hits or an honestly ridiculous fixation on an impossible standard. In either case, the original poster doesn't seem to know a lot about knives, so my advice is

Read More, Post Less.
