Paramilitary 2 detent broke?

Hey all. I received a PM2 from my wife on Christmas and I love it. I thought everything about it was perfect. Then I flicked it open just now and I heard something rattle around on the floor and got lost forever. Now my knife opens from the lightest of touches while closed. I'm concerned because it will definately open in my pocket and slice myself. Is this normal? Is it possible the detent ball snapped off somehow and that is what I heard on the floor?
 
Awesome. Upon further inspection I can see the spot where the detent should be. I can't believe it broke off after opening it 20 times
 
That's a bummer. I had the detent fall out of my sage 2 after I flame anodized the handles (ti expanded when heated and the ball came loose). I just ordered some new hardened 440c ball bearings (1/16 size I believe) from grainger and put a new one in. Just set the ball in place and give it a couple firm taps using a nail set and you're good to go. It's a really easy fix, but for the sake of saving your warranty, sending it in to spyderco to be fixed is the wise choice.

Hmmmnn I might have to try this to my sage 2. My detent ball is still in it but it is so worn from playing with it that the detent isn't that good anymore. Either that or drill the detent hole larger.
 
I think you made a good choice by sending it in.
I have owned a few Para 2's and never had that problem.
I have 2 currently and neither have that issue.

Spyderco will fix it up for you and you'll get it back as good or better than new! =]
 
Ya this isn't the norm so don't let it ruin this incredible knife for you! I just carried mine today but thats not unusual as it has slowly become my most carried edc knife. Depending on where she bought it I would think you would have had better luck calling the dealer and getting a replacement then waiting for Spydercos turn around time.

Mine hasn't been flicked or even used yet. The ball appears to be missing on my blue M390. You can see it clearly on my other one. All you can see on my blue one is a clean round hole. Not that it is all that easy to see in there with my old eyes....lol.

First Spyderco knife I have ever gotten with any kind of problem.
 
Thanks Sal. I sent it in on Wednesday so your team should be getting sometime soon. I feel special knowing that the owner actually takes the time to acknowledge the customer. I feel completely reassured. Thanks again!
 
I also just lost the detent ball on my blue M390!
So three days after paying a small fortune to get it into the country, I get to send it back...

Looks like we might have an issue. My aplogies. I've alerted the factory manager and customer service. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanx for letting us know. If you can get those pieces to us, we'll jump on it. We also need to learn the cause of the problem.

This just happened to me , I opened it up and all of sudden I heard a sound and now it rattles and opens with a wiggle
