Paramilitary 2 gutted its first deer today

TWRA, the state agency, has done a great job growing the herd. From what I understand they were in growth mode from ~1940s to ~1980s and now we're up to somewhere around 900,000 deer in the state (for about 6 million people). They're trying to grow in east TN still but I've heard there are actually concerns about the herd getting too big in the west as numbers of hunters kind of falter. And now they're reintroducing elk in the eastern part of the state, with 5 (I think?) tags issued for them this past season. Really cool to be in the Smokey Mountains NP and hear them bugling in the morning.

It's a pretty good state for hunting, gun ownership, and more recently knife ownership, too.

And yeah, I think textured G10 or peel-ply CF is my favorite handle material for that sort of stuff. The metal handles on the shallot, while functional, could've been better. The FRN handles on the Endura were grippy but had too many small nooks and crannies - hard to clean fat and tissue out of there. Some good, medium texture G10 is just about perfect.

I entitle this crappy photo composition "the ones that didn't get away"

That's a Busse Basic 9. That = one BIG cervidae. In other words - nice rack!

See this is a good example of what belongs in my new The Knife Life thread.....

Stories and comments about knife related things that don't really need a whole new thread:)

I didn't notice mod under your name? Why come in and take a dump in a thread, because you didn't get enough interaction in your other thread? Just don't read it if you're so bothered.
