I'm not surprised to see the Para 2 winning by a mile. It's an outstanding knife, much lighter and thinner than the 7 as well. Finish is nicer, too. But the Emerson just speaks to me. I think years from now these knives will even out in reputation more. I think the Para 2 still has the flavor of the year thing going for it. Both are definitely modern day classics that every collection should have and if one really had to choose one over the other it's all coming down to preference in the end.

I'm going with the emerson, as he mentioned he likes to take knives apart and with spyderco if an issue ever arises he have voided his warranty taking it apart. With emerson that will never be an issue. go the the emerson!

Even if the Emerson wasn't more expensive and didn't use inferior steel I'd still pick the Para 2...

I've owned both, and liked both knives immensely. However, in my opinion, the PM2 is just an all-around better knife. The symmetrical blade geometry of the PM2 just makes it better for slicing/cutting. As others have mentioned, you have additional blade steel choices if you opt for a sprint run model. The Emerson would be my choice if I needed to stab through plywood or pry open a man-hole cover!

I'm looking at them both right now and the Para actually has a thicker blade stock. The tip is finer on the Para but who uses their knife for prying anyway? (rhetorical question) It looks like the CQC-7v has a 3mil stock and the Para 2 has 4mil.

I guess since the 7 retains its thickness more towards the tip, it just seemed thicker. Thanks for the clarification.

Para 2. Simply because "it is really that good". Mine has all but kicked out most of my other EDC's. Great blade with a great blade shape, great ergonomics, light weight and a fantastic lock.

I don't see any good reason not to own both. I'm sure a lot of people here do, myself included.

i pre fer the para 2, i think that they are equally tactical, but the emerson has more of a weak design band its screws strip and over time the scales will shift around due to the screws being milled in to the titanium ./

The Para and the 7 are different beasts.
Working EDC, get the Para.
"Serious" EDC, get the 7.

Im leaning more towards the cqc-7. If you think I should get the para 2 tell me why.

I know I already voted CQC-7, but I do want to add that you really do need a Para 2 down the line. The CQC-7 is a sweet, sweet blade. I barely had it out of the box when it made it to my top 5 knives of all time. But the Para 2 is also in my top 5. Every collection should contain both. :)

The problem is I only have money for one of them. I could get the cqc for about 130 and the para for less then that. I know ill have both but for now I have to live with only one of them.

Para2 and this is why Better steel- cpm s30v or 154cm? I'll take the s30v with Spyderco's ht all day over the emerson and I like V edges over chisel's and with the ziptie mod the spydie even deploy's easier. For edc its a far better choice but for SD I think I still like the spydie with zip tie. Don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with the Emerson in fact I like it just not as much as the Para2
