Paramilitary 2 or manix 2

I just got a PM2, and I'm returning it. It's certainly not a bad knife, but it seems to be made for people with gigantic hands. I don't need a 5 inch handle on a folder, especially if there's a choil. In other knives, I can get as much blade with a handle that's a full inch shorter. That said, it's nicely made, ergonomics are good (though I don't like the lock), and holy hell did it come sharp.

Why don't you like the lock?

Hard to access. Like most locks on the back, you need to completely change your grip to use them. By all accounts it's a good lock and definitely something I could get used to if the knife were 80% sized.

So I'm a couple days away from buying my next knife and I'm debating between the spyderco manix 2 and the spyderco paramilitary 2. I plan to make it a, "do everything knife". I would like for y'all to help me make that decision. Make sure to make a solid argument to support your choice in knife. :D

manix 2, better value for the lower price.

I've had both and I honestly couldn't tell you which one I would recommend.

I would say if you like more of a flat, thin, slicer that is still plenty strong, go with the PM (very thin and flat, but still strong). If you like your knives to feel a little more stout, go with the Manix (thicker, more robust). Either one would be an excellent "do it all knife".

It all comes down to personal preference. That's why you need to try both. Until you do you'll never know.

Those are 2 of my 3 favorite spydercos. I bought the pm2 first thensecond a manix 2 ffg g10 and 3rd the manix 2 lightweight and my favorite for edc/everyday use by far is the manix 2 lightweight. I would buy all 3 if i were you but my favorite is the lightweight manix 2 in my opinion.

Cru-wear is harder and a bit tougher than D2 & M2 and more wear resistant than D2 (close to M2). HT is just a bit higher than D2, waay lower than M2/M2 range.

So, it is "better" characteristic than D2, and compable to M2 without cost (of HT). I'm not sure Cru-Wear is powder steel, but if not, it should improve by having CPM-Cru-wear, and achive D2+ performance with existing equipment. This is nice improvement, and I like the fact Spyderco is challenging to use new steel.

I like the PM2 better because of better blade steel, collectibility, and how awesome it looks. The Manix 2 is a fantastic knife, too and may be better for what you need. The PM2 has a very thin tip and may not work well for some tasks.

You may wind up walking away from this conversation more unsure of what you want. There will be many who prefer one to the other & you may have to own both to know for yourself. That's what I did.

In the end, I sold my PM2 and kept the Manix Lightweight. I prefer the Manix lock and the leaf blade shape.

Yeah. I just saw yesterday that one of the sponsor dealers had the 110 version (in stock) for $95 or around there.

I love both knives but really like big folders. I give the Manix 2 XL the edge. Only drawback is I cannot open and close it with one hand. But the thing is a beast!

I like both but prefer the basic platform of the PM2 over the Manix 2 for the following reasons:

1. Fits in pocket better
2. Open pillar construction makes cleaning easier
3. Edge to compression lock over BBL
4. Less jimping
5. Pointy tip and narrower blade profile adds to utility
6. Has R & L Tip down clip options in addition to tip up

My like for the Manix 2 is mostly tied to certain versions that the PM2 has no alternative to. Specifically the BBS M4, the EDCF GITD and the FRN S110V versions of the Manix 2. Standard PM2 S30V vs Manix 2 S30V I would pick the PM2 everyday of the week.
