Paramilitary 2 versus Military

I have both. I don't worry about the lock type. I think the Para2 is a little better size for me for EDC. And I like both of them to be tip down, much faster to deploy that way.

Which is better for EDC use? What are the differences in function and application?

If you own both, please give me a comparison.

The Military is bigger. It feels lighter, I'm not sure if it really is or not. It has partial steel liners under the G10, the steel ends at the end of the aluminum backspacer. It has an aluminum backspacer, which is lighter and is great until you take the knife apart and strip it out (steel screw into aluminum threads = easily stripped backspacer) and have to send it back to the factory to be repaired for $20. Tip down carry is just fine, and safer because you're less likely to stab yourself in the hand when your blade opens a little bit (or more) in your pocket. The liner lock is perfectly safe, so long as you don't "spine whack" your knives, or similar.

The Para2 is "cleaner" and has better features. The pivot can be adjusted to the point where the knife has absolutely zero perceptible bladeplay as well as zero perceptible friction. Seriously, these knives can be made tight, but still open like its on ball bearings. The compression lock is technically stronger, but it doesn't matter because it's not noticeably stronger than any other decent lock.

Both knives have G10 that is soft enough that it won't tear up your pocket, but grippy enough to use when wet. both knives have excellent, properly designed and fitted locks. Both knives have high quality phosphor bronze washers.

Get one first, then the other. Both knives are "must haves". I use the Para2 at the office, and really just about everywhere else. I don't carry my Military as much, but often bring it on a hike where I want to carry as much blade per ounce as I can. If my house were burning down and I could only pick one, I'd be happy with whichever was clipped to my pocket at the moment - it would be impossible to pick one over the other.

^^ I didn't care for the backspacer on the Military, so I bought standoffs from knifekits.com. Looks a lot better, IMO.

I refuse to chose! I love them both!

Excellent taste in blades and handguns! I have the M&P 9 and Shield 9. I just got my PM2, so it's nice to know it will complement my carry gun well. :D

I can't speak to the Military, but one thing I've come to love about the Paramilitary 2 compared to my other knives (liner and frame locks) in the short time I've had it is the compression lock. Flies open, solid lock up, easy to close - just a great system.

I used to carry my Military before the PM2 came out. Now I carry one of my Pm2 s more than any other knife. To me , the PM2 has the best ergonomics of any knife I own.

Picked up a manix 2 yet? The ergo's on them feel amazing. Even compared to a PM2.

I prefer the millie because of the improved ergonomics and cutting power that are usually attributed to bigger knives. I like the compression lock much better but have no issues with the linerlock either. It really comes down to how big of a knife you want, I dont carry my para 2's as much as I used to in favor of bigger knives but the para 2 has never fell short of any task I had to do. You could say the para 2 is a pretty much ideal edc blade though.

That'd be a personal preference thing. I can't like a manix2 no matter how hard I've tried to. The Military and the Para Military on the other hand...
