Paramilitary and blade play

First of all bungwrench claiming the compression lock as the best lock available is simply your opinion. The mainstream set of locks on folders; lockback, liner, frame, and axis have all been stress tested and time proven. Each is just as strong and reliable as the compression...if not more so.

Secondly, 1mm of vertical play is annoying. So what? "So what" is your prerogative. Most members, myself included cannot stand any bit of blade play...even as little as .5mm. Its about have confidence in your folder and not having that aggravating and dreaded movement of the blade when cutting. I dont care if the blade won't fail with play...its just ugly to have it in the first place.

Hey good for you. I'm very proud of ya.

It's a great knife, the one I handled had no play. The ergos didn't quite fit me otherwise the Para is the perfect knife to me. G10 handles without much steel in there to weigh things down, nice flat ground blade, very strong lock etc. I have a military now, ak nife I held off on for a while because I thought it would be too big. It's now one of my favorite knives ever. Just reprofiled the blade today. Quite possibly the most comfortable folder from Spyderco I've held yet.

Mine has a little bit of play. It doesn't bother me because I know blade play does not affect the strength of the lock. I am, however, hoping for Spyderco to remove the blade play altogether when they eventually release the "Para-Military 2."

Well I don't know how thread necromancy is viewed here but I wanted to thank everyone for their responses.

I ended up going with a Delica 4 Wave. I came to the realization that FRN and VG-10 are so far beyond what any EDC knife really needs that there's no point in getting something even fancier. As well, while I hope to never really use the feature, the Wave will make it more useful under strained circumstances.

Thanks again.

Good choice, but you will need one more knife with S30V + G10

For the info, my para has ZERO play and very sharp :)

If you hold your knife by its handle and can move the blade just a little bit, you have play. I have held around 6-7 para's ad all had play. All of my Spyderco's do.

Mine has always had some degree of blade play. I probably need to send it in to Spyderco.

I've got two Para's and no blade play. I think its a matter of tweeking the pivot screw -- too loose and there is play,
