Paramilitary or Stretch

I couldn't and wouldn't live without either. That said, the Para2 is my favorite model. The Stretch has thinner blade stock and slices a little better. The comp lock is king. They both fit my hand very well.

If given the choice between a sprint and a regular production model I would take the sprint run. I vote SB Stretch. You can grab a Para2 when the M4 exculsives drop. ;)

Those are some really cool shots, thanks man! What is that blue with the big hole in the middle? I have never seen it before, very cool indeed, and rare.

i used to think the same thing but anecdotal tests seem so show that ball locks, axis locks, and back locks are superior

Just curious but in what way are they superior?

I was just inserting preference. I don't think any of them are superior. I think lock strength is overrated so I think it really comes down to what interface you like the best. I find the comp lock to be the easiest to manipulate which is why it is the king for me. ;)

It is a Swick4 with scales from Halpern Titanium.

Here is a Swick3 with some homemade scales.

Thanks for the reply killer, that's an awesome blade design! I didn't even know they existed, thanks for the extra pics too! I have always loved Spyderco's unique designs, sadly I had to sell a bunch of them due to financial troubles, but that one would be a keeper for sure.

Sorry I didn't mean to derail the thread, it's just that crazy love for knives we all have.

by superior i meant strength rather than user experience.... i do agree with you in that regard, i used to hate lockbacks but after spending some time with a delica they grew on me. and after watching some lock tests i was was sold when i saw how tough lock backs were compared to compression locks.

The Paramilitary 2 is an awesome and very capable knife. One of my favorites for sure. That said, I love Spyderco's lockbacks and I would like to add a Stretch to my collection. Perhaps I'll pick up a ZDP-189 model; I don't own a knife in that steel yet.

I prefer the handle ergonomics of the Paramilitary, but I prefer the back lock of the Stretch. The back lock is much more intuitive and safer and easier to operate one handed IMO.

I'm with you. The PM3 should have FRN and a back lock, then it would be the perfect knife. :D

I'm not sure I'd go that far. :D I would however love to see them make a couple of frn backlock knives based on the geometry and ergonomics of both the Paramilitary and the Military. I have petitioned before for a frn Millie with backlock and 4-way clip. Can you imagine? Now pop the liners out and put some serrated H1 in and you've got a Millie Salt. I know right?

Grab a HAP40 sprint if you are looking for one, it should be just shipping out from Spyderco right now.

Just curious, where on earth did you find a super blue stretch in stock?

I was not aware of a HAP40 Stretch. So, if the HAP40 Stretch is coming, then which would be better, HAP40 or Super Blue?

My hap40 Endura has had pretty good corrosion resistance, and takes a great edge with retention.

I don't worry much about lock strength for my normal use, I'm more interested in ease and reliability of operation. I have a big bias against lockback knives because I want easy one-handed operation and with a lockback that means a big risk of blood loss. To a somewhat lesser extent I also prefer G10 over FRN. Otherwise the size, handle shape and blade shape of the Stretch would work for my needs. My favorite EDC blades include Para2, Manix 2 and Manix 2 XL (which I'm carrying today).

Lock strength isn't really that big of a concern for me tbh, I can use slipjoint effectively for most tasks. PM ergonomics, ease of opening and closing one handed more important to me. It's available in lots of high performing steels for those so inclined.

They are = IMO as far as carry. Both good. I discovered the Stretch late in the game.
