Is this model far enough through the design process that pics can be shown? If so, anyone have any? Any opinions from the lucky few who checked it out at Blade would be appreciated.

Sounds like it would be a good companion piece to my Lil' Temperance's.

I had a chance to see and handle the Paramilitary at the Blade show
in Atlanta. Out of all the factory knives that I had a chance to see
at the show this one appealled to me the most. The Paramilitary was
extremely fast on the draw and appealing to look at. The prototype
had the ability to be carried "tip up","tip down" and right or left
handed. I hope they produce this knife in olive drab.

sak84,

Did the Paramilitary look pretty much like a full sized Military, in terms of scale? I had formed the impression from previous descriptions I've read that it was going to be different.

Thanks, Jeff/1911.

Yes the Paramilitary did look like a scaled down model of the
Military. I normally carry a Military so when I put the para
into my pocket it felt very natural to draw out. The pocket clip was
the wire type used on some of the Q models and the handles had the
groves cut into them to accept the clip similar to the Lil temperance.
The para prototype had a date of May 29 2002 on the blade and I was
told that this was the date that it was produced. They do not come
much newer than that.

sak84,

Thanks for the information. I am quite interested in this model. I too carry a Military a lot of the time. I don't know if I'd like the wire clip, but it may end up being produced differently anyway.

I am extremely excited for this model. The fact that it can be carried in all four configurations is great. I'm not happy about the wire clip though. I seriously hope that gets changed.

I have some reservations about the wire clip also, but I think that
if the gauge of wire used is heavy enough that it has possibilities.
I guess that the regular spyder clip is hard to improve upon and
I am just looking for something a little different. I also think
that the wire clip might be less noticeable especially if it is
subdued in color. I forgot to mention in an earlier post that the
lock on the Paramilitary prototype is similar to the Lil Temperance
lock.

Hot off the presses!

Sounds good. Can't wait to carry one tip up, front right hand pocket.

Thanks for the info, sak84.

Looking forward to it. Pity no photos- they don't like photos published ('net or otherwise) until they're a few months away from releasing them. There was a stink a year or 2 ago when some prototype photos were released w/out Sal's permission.
The Para should be a keeper.

I too had reservations about a wire clip, but the Salsa I checked out had a very sturdy clip. I don't think that breaking or bending it will be an issue.

A four position clip option is fantastic! Sal, please stick with that!

It's not just breakage I'm worried about. A wire clip increases the chances of snagging on something.

The way I always heard it, "if it aint broke, don't fix it." Well I don't see anything wrong with the clip on my current Military. Putting a wire clip on seems to go against the whole philosophy behind the Military: a wire clip is more form than function.

cuz it was 'too big', a 1st model that could release in a tight hammer grip, and it just didn't work for me after carrying it for a few weeks...

So, I bought an old stock Goddard FS'd brown Micarta Spydie...sweet, but still too big'n slow, and quite illegal while working down here in Mexico...

Recently, I've been carrying a flag 'Q' with the wire clip...boo!

A wicked nice knife, but the damn thing snags and pops out of my pocket daily! The wire clip pulls out .750" with no real stress applied...again, boo!

I never had 'that' problem with my FRN Endura's and Delica's, in almost 8 years...

So, the quest for the perfect Spydie continues...hopefully the paramilitary will be 'it'...hopefully.

p.s. Thanks for the heads up on the para...I look forward to another purchase soon... ;)

DB,

I'm not defending wire clips here, but keep in mind that the clip on the Q bends out so easily due to the way that it is attached into the handle, not because of the clip itself.

I would rather see a 3 screw clip used on this one.

You should check out the next generation wire clips on the Meerkat and Salsas. If anything they are too strong/tight. The Salsas especially.

I'm in agreement with Carlos on the new wire clip. I've carried Q's and the Ti Salsa. The Q wire clip has more of an angle from the mount point to the contact point. The salsa's clip is parallel to the side of the scales and doesn't stick out as far as the Q clip. And the Salsa clip is very tight. At first I wore it with my jeans as often as I could just to loosen it a little. After >2 months of EDC it's still very tight. It hasn't popped off once.

If the Paramilitary is a scaled down version of the Military, does this also mean no liners? And will the Spydie hole on the Para be as large as on its big brother?

No liners and large Spydie hole are two features that IMHO make the Military special.

Good points, Bill. The oversize hole seems to be almost standard now. The Salsa, with it's short blade, even has one.
However, the compression lock cannot be made without dual liners. As much as I love the C-lock, it would be a shame to weight this knife down with extra liners. Maybe a small liner could be recessed into the opposite scale just to hold the stop pin.

Maybe someone who handled the proto will chime in.
