So after finding out the Parangatang was selling for well under it's normal price, I couldn't resist any longer, and today the package from the kind gentlemen of Tomar's Kabars arrived, with all my goodies.

The Ka-barley is quite effective, first test went so smoothly it surprised me; it's a hardcore bottle opener.

The Dozier is a surprising little knife, it feels quite heavier than I expected it to be (good thing) and has rock-solid lockup (good thing) and good ergonomics (good thing). A plus is the fact it's ambidextrous thanks to the back-lock, so as a lefty I don't have to mess with a liner or frame-lock. A screamin' deal of a knife for sure, I like it more than the Ontario Rat I that was my previous benchmark for a quality knife under $30.

And finally, the Parangatang: it's everything I expected it to be, and more. The handle actually feels quite good, the palm swell is a pleasant surprise as is the two-finger choil design. Quite comfortable and very secure feel, even with the relatively slick handles. It's heavy, but it feels more useful than my old 18in Military from Ontario, I can't wait to get it out and swinging in the wild.

I now have Ka-bar items that aren't Beckers, and all of them are pleasant surprises. This worries my wallet, for sure, I might have a hard time resisting some more purchases that I have on my list.

And now the crappy night-time picture, I really need to learn to take pictures during the day.

All three are great choices, congratulations. That parangatang will chop like nobody's business.

I picked up the Parangatang this season for trail building and clearing and is definitely a star.
It lops almost wrist sized hardwood branches with relative ease and I was using it as a froe, batoning through 2 foot long hardwood logs to make bridge treads.
Edge retention is great as well. 4-5 hour trail days and just needs a quick touch up and a light coat of oil when I get home.
Everyone is impressed with the performance and I'd probably pick up another (so I don't need to lend mine) but the price now is significantly higher than the $75 I paid a few months ago.

I actually got it for $75 from Tomar's, which is why I was convinced to buy it in the first place.

Congrats man! I'm having that problem now with my wallet. Discontinued Ka-Bars that I've been looking for keep popping up at reasonable prices and I keep snatching them up lol.
Beat the snot out of it and report back with pics!

I'm headed to the woods in 2 weeks, I dunno if I'll have the ability to hold back until then, so I might just have to take it to the little wood pile we have here in the not-at-all-rural neighborhood I'm in. Sadly the woods are an hour away or more, so I can't just head out there after work like I want to.

Oh well, at least the next trip will be a blast; got multiple blades to test out for the first time and a few more that'll be coming along for backup. I'll have more blades on me than Wesley Snipes with a cloning machine.

This thread just convinced me that I need a Paranatang.......and a Potbelly!

Thanks too the Paranatang, my hatchet is staying on a shelf in the garage and my fixed blade selections are staying in the 5-6 inch blade range. Any chopping and batoning chores have gone to the Paranatang. Function well worth the 1 1/2 lbs. IMHO.

More than one person has looked at me as if to say, you don't know the proper name of certain primates?:D

I might have to get myself one of those Kabar tools. The Kabar ice scraper will be useful coming up this winter.

Mine showed up today..........very impressed with the Parangatang. I thought the Potbelly was suppose to be a hollow ground? Mine is flat ground unless it is a really shallow hollow grind.

Got back from a camp trip that saw my parangatang get some hard use.

First blood, was all too easy.

Afterwards it was well used.

My hard use trio, they even match!
