Whose making short parangs? What I'm looking for is one with under 12 inches of blade (10 is better)and full tang handle. Anyone out there making them?

The only places I can think of at the moment only have hidden tang models, though a little bird tells me that Condor might have such a model slated for 2012. :)

Rich Marchand, Koyote, David Farmer, and here is one I made with a 10" blade of 1/4" 5160:

I saw a smaller one he does too....oh mama, let me win lotto someday...:D

For what it’s worth, here is a 10” bladed Parang from Malaysia. I know you wanted a full tang Parang, this one is the traditional stick tang, but held in with a pin. This is called the Ray Mears Style Parang and comes in 10” and 12” blade versions. I am currently doing a story for Tactical Knives on these Parangs and the guy who is putting them out there.

Hope this helps.

OK,
now thats pretty cool.
Thanks a lot for the link BTD, I also found out about a knife I own. I have one of the Parang Bidor model 125. I cleaned mine up and rehandled it with some nice looking wood. Great chopper by the way, I love it!

Its the middle one in this picture.

Gunknifenut-

Those are some nice looking choppers. How long have you had the 125? I love that style Parang, more of a Bolo than Parang. I have the 105.

How do you like the Thai E-Nep? Is it too heavy for real work?

Its a good weight and it feels great in hand. It came with a terrible edge grind, so I stripped the blade, and reground it. Overall, its one of my favorite choppers in its size now, the sheath is top notch on it.. I also bought the Enep Machete, and its AWESOME, I like it a bunch . I really like the 125, its a great tool, and tough to beat. I am partial to the handle now..LOL.

I'll be looking forward to reading your article about these parangs.

Anyone who knows me on this or any forum knows that I love custom makers and always support them. However, in regards to the Parang--- there is a BIG difference in someone making the shape of a Parang, and one made from Malaysia. The formula for each style is something to see. The weight of the stick tang gives it that swing not possible on a full tang. I may be able to start a pass around when I gat back from Asia so people can see an authentic Parang. It anyone wants.
