This is one of my favorite and most successful designs to date. It is a paring knife, but could also be a short bird & trout knife, or even "every day carry". The steel is 15n20 nickel steel, which has been around for a long time, and saw heavy use in band saw blade production. Today, it is commonly used in pattern welded steel (often called "damascus") as it resists the etching and gives a nice contrast to the other steel(s) it is paired with. While I hardened and tempered this blade to a relatively high hardness of 63HRC, the nickel content makes it an extremely tough steel. Heat treatment consisted of normalizing the blade and thermal cycling it 3 times to refine the grain structure and quenched in fast oil. The blade has a full flat grind to a pre-sharpened edge width of only 0.005", making it a fantastic cutter. The handle is eucalyptus, with a hand rubbed oil finish, and a coat of wax for protection and durability. "This, ladies and gentlemen, will cut!" (nod to Doug Marcaida)
