Paris is burning

Strange to see such a piece about a first-world country. Chilling. Just goes to show that you never know. I feel for the people caught in the middle here. Hope at least some were adequately prepared and that this is resolved.

It reminds me of the Watts riots in LA in the 90's. People do stupid things when they are frustrated. Things like burning down your own neighborhood.
 
Maybe we should send troops to help the innocent...no...wait...they don't like our military there...don't even let us fly over their country for humanitarian reasons.

don't worry, they'll send in the regular french army to quell the riots, upon which event the government will of course surrender. and it will all be over.

now, if someone smart sends in the Légion étrangère, the rioters will stop abruptly. kinda hard to riot when you're dead. and it will all be over.

Follow the links, you will be shocked at what has been happening in Europe, how afraid the governments are, (hint, it's not just France), and how bad it could get. The disgusting thing is, the media knows and won't report it.
 
ah, well - at least while they are occupied destroying their own neighborhoods, they are not stopping british trucks and burning sheep alive like they normally do.

10 policemen shot last night by rioters. i think it's time to send in the gurkhas, as in brunai, an advancing line of little brown men with drawn sharp pointy things and the knowledge they didn't mind using them would have a salutory effect on the situation. if the froggies ask real nice & come up with all the dosh they owe UK farmers from the burning sheep stuff, mebbe we'll lend them a regiment or two. (or not.)

In my opinion blaming the French population is wrong, the European governements have always been very reluctant to take action against so called "foreigners" due to the fact that they were scared to be stigmatised as "rascists".
This led to the formation of massive ghetto's where legal and illegal immigrants live in empovered situations.
Due to the fact that they are either illegal or when legal have low education and have language problems they stay in the conditions they arrived.

You see the mounting tension for years now, the rise of extreme right wing party's all over Europe and the pampering of the "poor immigrants" led to a situation where a deep gap has been formed between the immigrants (who see themselves as victims of racism) and the "indigenous" population.

This gap has always been denied by the govenement because they tended to follow the, hear no evil, see no evil strategy and focused their efforts to fight the symptoms ( the rise of extreme right) instead of fxing the problem.

Now the digruntled immigrants have fallen under the influence of Islamic extremists and the population is fed up with the positive discrimination of the immigrants.

People in Europe feel that they no longer are at home in their own country because their future is beeing threathened by an unstoppable flow of illegal immigrants from Africa and the former USSR.

Because they have no legal means to support themselve the immigrants quickly turn into crime to make a living.

The current situation is not limited to France, all European countries face this threat, that someday they will wake up and find out that they gave away their country and their democratic rights.
 
imho violent anti-social behavior is wrong no matter what the provocation. if they want to change the situation they find themselves in, there are proven non-violent methods that have over the years forced the brits out of india, broke down the berlin wall, freed the warsaw pact nations and democratised the soviet union. while there were some violent repercussions to those, the violent elements there were also wrong.

it is especially idiotic to burn down your own groups homes, and businesses, and destroy your own sides possessions, at least the elements who cannot control their emotions constructively should be smart enough to go burn some other groups area instead of their own. if they cannot behave legally, are too impatient to follow legal channels thru the french and/or EU govt. channels, and want to act like barbarians, they deserve whatever containment tactics the govt. decides to use against them.
 
Just like everywhere mechanization is resulting in less need for workers.

However there are certain countries that are still producing unsustainable amounts of people for the "range" that they live in. Therefore just like white tail deer moving into the suburbs these folks move into other countries. If they were all forced to stay in their native countries famine or civil war would cut the population down.

I feel that countries who have managed to bring their populations under control should not be subsidizing the unsustainable reproductive practices of other countries even if it does provide cheap labor in the short run. I think that this is basically what this is all about.
 
The Japanese love to go on and on about "natural justice" and "natural harmony."
They use these English words, but I dont think they really know what these words mean.
Nature is not just, nor merciful nor kind nor harmonious.

Nature may find its own balance, but that doesnt mean that WE will survive it.
Starvation, disease and war ARE natural.
That IS balance. Im not starving nor diseased nor the victim of war, so it doesnt come home to me in waves of hunger or pain the way it does to those in Africa.
Still, what can we/should we do?
Take over their countries and run things for them?
Thats the only way they'll actually get any of the food we send.
70% of all that gets grabbed by local warlords and politicians.

Africa has always been bad. Always. It's a tough place to live.

Hell, if it werent for people wanting to leave Africa, we wouldnt be here now!

But what do you do when what is humane is at odds with what is wise?
 
The riot started when two black youths, fleeing fugitives, ran into a Power Station to hide where they were accidentally electrocuted.

I thought about that for awhile. Society has really broken down. The disenfranchised don't care how or why it happened; they only care it happened. This is a minor example of the rapist syndrome; fight back, hit him, and they inevitably say; 'Now, you're really going to get it."

A total narcism. The Character Disorder reigns when there is no society in it's place. And that 'society' must be in place in childhood.

We're raising the Rats of our own destruction. The more excuses we mistakenly allow, the worse it gets. Children raised out of Wedlock do not do as well. But single parent homes are a 'lifestyle choice" to the larger liberal society unwilling to look at the reality.

Anyway, it's interesting it's in Paris. The French are so much better than the US, after all. Imagine building low cost 'housing' units (projects) away from the desirable sections of Paris only to have these breed hate in isolation? Who'd a thunk?

Interesting to think about transposing the 2nd Amendment into the French constitution. What difference might it make, facing these riots?

So far, there's only been 1 death associated with the riots, and gunfire happened for the first time last night. But with something like a 2nd Amendment, would law-abiding French citizens be out protecting their schools and Citroens in a "well regulated" militia?

My guess - we'd have fewer cars and schools being burned, and a pile more deaths. Deaths of French citizens protecting their stuff, of rioters trying to burn it, and of police.

It comes down to which trades a society's willing to make.

Well, we'd need an awful lot of boats to get everyone 'back' to where they 'started' from; Asia, Europe, China, Africa, etc etc.

There'd be no one left.

We don't treat people like animals. They treat themselves to that. We intervene on criminal behavior to protect society.

I wish there were a slogan to sum this up and make everyone feel better. "Send them back' is not it. "Let them eat Cake," is not it!!!

Paris proves we're all human, even the French.

I feel for the average joes in France. I can only guess that most of them are as disgusted with the rioters as we were with the looters in Los Angeles or New Orleans. A handful of low lifes can make a whole city look bad.
