Planning a once-in-a-lifetime family trip to Paris next spring with granddaughter (6) in tow. Am anticipating having to deal with fruit, French bread, wine corks and cheese. We'll be staying somewhere within walking distance of the Louvre. Any suggestions: Opinel, SAK, Languiole? Any good knife shops there?

I don't know anything about the knife laws in Paris, but I think there would be something very nice about carrying an Opinel there.

if you're going to paris you definitely need to bring a laguiole; it is the classic french knife. My father bought me one when we were in Paris about 8 years ago and it always reminds me of our trip there. It is the epitome of french cutlery

Also, check to see if there's a flea market going on while you're there. They move around, but the big ones are on schedule. Those are great places to find stuff, sometimes.
