Choil hater here, that looks pretty nice, well done.
Excellent job, I'm not sure about modding my Rangers but I do have two of them. I look at my Bruiser and black Ranger and think I could experiment on it. Perhaps a slight clip point and removal of the talon hole.
I can see that. But you don't have to remove that much. Just make it so the edge isn't a crisp 90° corner. One problem I'm running in to with chamfering the edges that I already had Mr. Brown make the sheath, and I don't believe I would have any significant retention after doing that. The full micarta is also nice on a small knife like this in regular grip. I'll have to use it for awhile and decide what would work best. Thank you for all the suggestions and comments.
Yes this sums it up pretty well. I'm not much on the choil thing either but that mod looks pretty user friendly, nice job.Great job OP! I'm with DB, fellow choil hater, but if I'm going to have one I would rather it be usable like this!
For me, I would prefer no choil on any blade under 5''. On a larger blade, it does have its uses. I cannot help but see the elf choils on small blades as anything but a cause of annoying snags.
After using the knife for a few days I just don't think it would be beneficial to take any material from the edges on this small knife. Now that the talon is gone, your pointer finger can rest fully on the grip comfortably. When using the choil, the grip is so small it does not interfere or get in the way like it would on a wider handle. I can always add it later, but for now I am very happy with it.I can see that. But you don't have to remove that much. Just make it so the edge isn't a crisp 90° corner.
