Parkerizing issues

This may be a better fit in the Maintenence, Tinkering & Embellishment forum but I thought there might be some makers who parkerize and could offer some advice. I made my first couple of attempts this weekend and have had mixed results so far-the first time turned out very spotty, the second turned out well except for a couple of areas on the tang where I evidently didn't have the metal clean enough.
I am wondering if it is possible/adviseable to degrease the blade, sandblast the bad areas and then run the whole blade through the parkerizing solution again, or would I be better off just blasting the finish off completely and starting all over again?
Also, can anyone recommend a degreasing product and/or a method that works well for you?

Try sandblasting, THEN degrease, then immediately parkerize.

I've used several water-based degreasers with success such as simple green, krud cutter, purple power, etc. Use a scrub brush.

After degreasing, rinse and leave submerged in hot water. Then go directly in your park tank.

It is ok to blast just the spots that did not park and repark. I have done it many times on pistols when i parkerized them. Usually you cant even tell where it was touched up.

Just noticed your degreasing question, I always used Gumout carb cleaner, followed by papertowel drying and then bead blasting. Worked for me.

Like they said. Sandblast, degrease then run it again. The trick to most finishes is getting the metal nice and clean. Make sure you're using NEW rag/cloth also. The oil onit can get your blade oiled up again and give spots. Also dont touch the blade either. Your fingers can be oily. I use brake cleaner normally to clean my stuff up. Just watch if its going to react with any of your metals.
