Does any one know were you can buy this? Heatbath minimum lot is 55 gallon drum. I was hoping to get 3 to 5 gallons.

I have contacted Ellis Knifeworks and they are out and do not know when or if they will get any.

can any one explain why there is really only one supplier that being Patrick? I'm glad he has it and is selling but it seems strange to me that you just cant get the high dollar quenchents more readily.

Heatbath chooses to be very difficult for small companies and individuals to deal with.
Some of us have managed to get small quantities from them in the past but it is neither
easy nor guaranteed to be repeatable. This is one reason why a number of people are
looking into Houghton quenchants instead.

i looked at Houghtons web site and honestly i got confused.

what oils of theirs is appropriate for knives and does any one know the cost and availability?

thanks

Jake

The 11 second would be good for 10xx and W series, while the 28 second is good for the rest of the oil hardening set. I say screw Heatbath, if their too good to deal with the small guy, then I'm to good to use their product.

ok so i know of heatbath, Mcmaster carr, Houghtons and tuff quench.

is there any others?

It's not that they're too good, it's a liability issue.
They are only selling to the "Industry" of heat treating and steel formulating companies that follow regulations and have all of their bases covered as far as OSHA is concerned and the stuff is being used by trained personel.
They don't want to be sued by some weekend warrior that's working too late after he's had a 12 pack and kicks his flaming bucket of Parks #50 over while he's running from his garage!
Next day his lawyer says, "Let's sue Heatbath!"

I'm not sure why I'm the only guy selling it either. I didn't do anything magical... just sent them an email. I have an LLC, and I did create some Pomp and Circumstance with my letterhead and fax number, etc...

I make sure not to utter the "K" word (knife). I also make sure not to mention anything about re-selling it. I'm guessing if I did either they would cut me off.

Oh,:foot: I see... I've been a little half cocked all day today for some reason...Probably the fact that this grinder I'm building is causing me some nightmares... tryiing to find cheap gear boxes, or the right pulleys etc etc
