Hi folks,

I know W2 and 1095 are suitable for Parks 50 quenching, are all 10X steels good for Parks too? Can I use it to quench 5160? Sorry for the confusion, hope someone can enlighten me.

Can/should/need to? Parks 50 is faster than necessary for 5160, O1, etc. That means that it will
cause more stress in the steel because of the faster quench. Will the added stress actually cause
you problems? Depends. The rest of your HT regimen certainly matters too -- how thoroughly
destressed is the steel before you start quenching?

Any eutectoid to hyper-eutectoid steel can be quenched in Parks #50. High alloy and hypo-eutectoid steels need slower quench speed. As Dan said, it may not matter, but it can cause problems.

Thanks Guys, guess I need to do some research to find out what the heck those terms are. I'm finding that the more I learn the less I know:)
