Here's a picture of a Darrel Ralph Apogee next to a model of the OE Parogee - forthcoming frame-lock.

Apogee-ParogeeModel.jpg

An apogee is the high point of an orbit, as in the farthest distance of the moon from the earth. A perigee is the lowest point in the orbit (and maybe a higher than usual high tide). A Parogee is the name of a knife.

Wow, Thanks for posting all of these pictures James!

Did they give any specifics as far as blade steels? I'd imagine the medium Impulse and Pocket Pulse will be Sandvik again, but what about this one and Mr. Carson's frame locker?

Jon

Not bad. The handle/frame looks more like a Kit Carson thing...... What's the frame made of?

Really like the shape/design of the blade!

Oh My GOD!!
Yet another "must have" knife!
Where does it all end?

What's the blade steel on this one James?
Price point?

Mmmmm…pierogies (drooling à la Homer Simpson)

. Seriously, though…does anyone know what the dimensions of the “Parogee” will be? I can’t determine from the picture if it’s closer in size to the small or medium Apogee. I’ve been very impressed with the other OE collaborations (Impulse and Magna) and this looks like another “must-have” for sure…

Mike Turber named the knife! That's who. Great name, thanks Mike. Since we did not run a contest on this one I'll send you a free Parogee hot off the press when they come in. This knife is still in the development stage so delivery should be early Fall of 2000.

To Ugly Jim; Blade length is 3" and 7" overall. Blade steel will be AUS-8A with a target MSRP range of $50-60.

Thanks to all for your interest and the positive feedback.

What is the handle Material of the Parogee? I just got a Small Apogee todoay, and would like to have a buddy for it

Handle will be 420 stainless. We are now deciding on the blade and handle finishes. We are not going to make another all bead blast knife so perhaps the handle will he bead blast and the blade stone washed to contrast and offset the two finishes.

Any comments? Our goal is to give the people what they want so let us know.

That looks great. I'm going to have to pick one up.

A stonewashed blade would be great!

David,

Very nice job! You know what I am going to ask now?? .....LOL. Will the knife have dual thumb studs? Tip up or down carry?

How about a LEFT HANDED model for the southpaws, and weakside carry righties??
biggrin.gif

Can't hurt to ask .....LOL!

Another vote for stone washed finish!

Dual thumb studs, yes!

Left hand locking model, not now unless we get lots of requests.

From your responses stone washed sounds like the ticket for blade finish.

As far as tip up/tip down, I don't know. I was planning on tip down but since a frame lock has better security against pocket opening I suppose tip up would work. I am leaning towards tip down because it offers better ergonomics having the clip up towards the bolster/guard instead of sticking into the rear palm of your hand. Better let me know soon whether you prefer tip up or tip down and why. I am now working on a tip down clip design for the Parogee.

David,

BTW - I vote for tip DOWN!

Who else wants LEFT HANDED models!

Thanks for taking the time to reply back - much appreciated!

Tip down, please...

Like BH, I just recieved my small Apogee from Darrel Ralph and it's crying out out for a production playmate. I can hardly wait for the Parogee...I'm really getting into this idea of pairing up custom and production versions of the same knife
