The Sebenza gets away with tip-up carry because (a) the frame lock's ball bearing detent is a little more secure than the average liner lock's, and (b) because Sebenza owners know they would lose honor and be excommunicated from the faithful if they sued over a cut finger!

Tip-down.

When a blade that's held in the handle by a ball bearing detent, and no backspring, is jarred open a little, it stays open a little. If it's in the tip-up position, you're liable to find the point with your fingers.

Thanks for all the input.

The final decision is for a tip down clip on the Parogee because of better ergonomics and safety. I'm carried both tip up and tip down knives over the years and am not convinced that tip up offers faster opening or any other benefit over tip down. Every knife design has it's own spirit and will carry and open differently. IMHO once you get comfortable with the carry and action of a knife, tip up/down is not a critical issue.

It's kind of like deciding which is better Chocolate or Vanilla? Neither is better they're just different.

Way to go, Mr. Ralph and Mr. Bloch! Looks like another winner.

Why not make a version the same size as the original Apogee?

I think thats the idea some where down the line for the apogee. At first we were going to build the titanium version. We feel the first step at this point its to make a good knife with a good price point. If the knife sells well the titanium mid size (just under 4 in ) apogee has a chance to be made ..
