I am surprised that the preference is so lopsided.

Maybe it's because the Buck Forum is fairly traditional...Try the same poll, same wording, in one of the more tactical forums, see what it shows there...

Is there a fairly popular tactical knife with serrations??? Use that forum...

That bug is really freakin' me out:eek:..almost smashed my monitor!
yes i have also tryed to kill that dang bug,,, freaked me also and then to find it was a posted bug... well one thing about Buckaholic..
he will spice things up if he can!!

i like a few serrated as show knives but not as users..
the only fully serrated one i know of is the 560 drop point i have tho i understand that a very few others were made in the custom shop also...
yes i was also suprised to see the lop sided vote

now i wander how the custom shop orders run?
most all non or more then 20% with..

Hey Jeffaroni...
I wrote a squeaky wheel e-mail today and received a reply that Ena's father passed away...so, I'm thinking they haven't shipped yet. Like I replied to that news, my concern for two blades (and a request for a 651) are just a nit in the big picture. So, I am guessing I will get them in another week or two.
Like that bumper sticker that says "ask me about my grandkids", pics will certainly follow.

Wow...I'm sensing the "Bum's Rush". Hey, I always leave a tip ;)

Dave...what bug?????:rolleyes: Walk away from the jug :D

It's my poll....or pole dance... I can 'jack it if I want to.

To answer the poll outright. . . Plain edge. Why? For me I find a good sharp plain edge up to most cutting challenges I come across day to day: letter opening, box opening, string cutting, splinter removal and other minor surgeries. I think a nice plain and razor sharp edge is more aesthetically pleasing (although less sparkly) and less scary for the non-knife people when I use it around others. Most of all they are easier to sharpen and clean.

However there are more choices. I see so many combo edged blades at the sporting goods store. Am I just late to the store and thats all they have left or are they really what are selling and why?

About the only time I appreciate a fully serrated knife is when I am slicing bread with a bread knife, my steak is a little on the tough side, or slicing a tomato at a girlfriend's house who's kitchen knives all seem pitifully dull. None of those scenarios involve my edc. I am sure there are more good reasons for serrations, but I just don't find myself ripping people out of seat belts like most of the adds and manufacturer write-ups for serrated knives like to mention. If I ever do have to cut a seatbelt, I think my plain edges are quite capable.

To me serrations are a complication that will shorten the life of a knife and are added for specialty purposes for which I am sure there are plenty for other people. I just don't find myself in many situations where serrations would be a great help. Does anyone out there have everyday uses for an edc that is FS or CE? I'd like to hear them. Does anyone out there have any collectability, resale, or purchasing stats for the different styles?

I suspect there are probably some very fine and personal lines drawn between the opinions for the "perfect knife for the job" and "making what you have work". based on a lot of different factors including personal choice.

Having said all that, instead of bashing one style in favor of another, I'll just say I like having the options. One of each please.

To get a more balanced average...

If their poll shows the opposite of this, then you have the basis for your doctoral thesis..."The Sectional Life of the American Mail"... :p

Well, I was one of the three only ‘don’t cares’. For me a knife stands on its merits and some knives are better serrated. I have a lefty Spiderco workman that is fully serrated and really the serrations suit this knife very well. It wouldn’t be as cool without’m. My 110 Custom Shopppeee is serrated because at the time I had 4or 5 110s but hadn’t seen a serrated one. The inch and a half of serration on my 110 is in the part of the blade that doesn’t get used as much and it is better for cutting rope or, God forbid, seatbelts. Admittedly, I have more plain blades but serrations wouldn’t be a reason not to buy a knife.

I knew whtach meant Trax :)
But I am fairly shy and don't venture far from home "here").

For Buck to use the poll results here for marketing forecast probably wouldn't be a good gauge of "what the people want" overall. So, posting in the General Forum or somewhere else would be good for that.

Here, it seems, mostly it's the Buck Herd Nerds that hang out. And I really don't care what others want...I wanted know what my BBFs thought since these are the brothers I'd be most likely buy a saspirilla and sit at the soda fountain talking story with. And that includes my fowl feathered forum friend.

Jeff...instead of a Intreprid, ya could put a 120 or 124 in a pic with that handsome grandson. Actually, the folder pictured works for now...little ones like to grab shiney things.

Thanks for the kind words about the grandson. His Papa, doesn't have
a 124 yet.But you never know what might come along.Those 124's are
looking better all the time.BTY that was his mother who let him hold
it,She likes knives too. I don't know where she got that.

Actually, after noting willthebarb's comment about seatbelts, I do note that my Mikov Rescue knife uses a serrated seatbelt cutting blade, and I can attest that it works excellently... :D

But that's a dedicated-blade knife; I don't believe it has any other function, so I'd still buy a straight edge work knife... :)

My one Buck 110 is partial serrations and I like it. It does have its uses. But if I had to do it over again I would of bought the plain edge. It gace a good excuse though when I bought my ag 110.

Plain edge all the way. Even after ten years as a first responder for the fire department I have never needed to cut a safety belt. Yeas ago I read in a shooting magazine that a serrated knife ranked right up there between a box of used primers and --? -- I no longer remember the writer or magazine but if’n any one remembers the saying please refresh me. Thanks.

I shared here when I first joined that I carried a 112 back in the 70's on my gunbelt when I was with San Diego PD. We also had the ambulance service back then. The straight blade on the 112 worked just fine on seat belts, pant legs, boots or anything elso for that matter. I just don't want the hassle of having to sharpen the serrations.

Be it folder or fixed blade...having a choice of having a partially serrated blade or a full regular edge, which would you choose?

only Serration I have seen and used that are worth having on a blade is RAT
Cutlery ...the Serration are spaced out to where they cut great ,make fuzz stick easily and save your main portion of the blade for cutting other items. ease of resharpening with a stone or rod... Best serration I have used or seen in a long time !

Well the poll data seems most convencing!!!
less then one in ten wanting the angry teeth....
However~ on takeing a few sips from the jar i went in to deep thought..
and it came to me~ are the lop sided figures because
those of us voteing here are buck nuts that use our knives…?*?*?
can we truly be the real sample pool of all buck buyers?

So with hurting head and dileing hands i humbled my self
and prayed to the all knowing spokesperson on top of
Buck Mountain
for data from which all wisdom flows...

Word from high on the
Mountain is :
{{drum roll please...tada}}
35 to 40 % of all custom shop orders
include serrations!!!
Wow…i took a sip of jar to wash that down,
i do recall i was told many that buy there are buying for show and
not for use so we could still be the true useing sample!!
calls for a drink i belive ! join me !

I like partial serrations and find them very useful. On a user knife only. On a dress knife no way. DM
