Partial Serrations

Butchering game and food prep with a serrated knife? I don't see how you can like a serrated for these jobs, what knife?

I am partial to using 2 blades @ once. 1 w/ and 1 w/o serrations. I have severe Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and nerve damage in both hands and arms, so my use may be quite different than others. All I know, is that it works for me, and I wouldn't be happy w/o toothy blades.

Hey is that the Busse ST Ripper? That is one of my favorite Busse's, maybe someday........

You clean rabbits and squirrels and peel potatos with those knives? I might just have to trade my henckels paring knife in........Nah maybe not.:D

If it works for you that's all that matters, but I think perhaps my game cleaning and food prep is a wee bit different than yours. Chris

It's been awhile since I've cleaned squirrel. But I like a good utility knife, a board with a nail in it and a pair of pliers for those guys. ;)
I don't peel my potatoes either, but you got me thinkin' about krinkle cut fried taters now!:D
Now we need to start a thread on outdoor food prep, and I need someone to operate the camera this season.

Who thinks these are needed on a survival knife?

They only knife you need serrations on is a bread knife. Period. On every other blade it only inhibits performance.

Never had any use for serrations on a survival/outdoors knife.
I've tried, but only found that they're not doing nearly as good a job as a plain edge. And they're a pain to sharpen in the field too.

I do not like serrations on a fixed blade. That being said, I have carried a fully serrated spyderco Delica in my pocket for over 12 years now- never sharpened the thing. I use it daily to open snack food packages, cut packing tape, nylon bands and have used it many times for rope, heavy nylon braided strap and feed bags. The points of the serrations are also VERY good for diggin splinters out- better control to choke up and use a point instead of using the tip of a blade like a pencil. It weighs next to nothing and I will not be without it... but no teeth on my fixed knives thank you :) .
