Pass around Bowie

Bruce Evans has it. I suspect he is doing paying jobs first but Im sure he will work it in. That has been quite a hard knife to get finished.

I will get it soon Promise..I have been putting all my efforts into some orders and my Journey Man Smith test knives and judging knives..Sorry I have taken so long..
Bruce

Hey Rhino,

Not whinning; just stating a sad fact.

My wife originally volunteered to do the schrim work; thinking the knife would be made in a few months.

IMO, this is ridiculous.

This knife might take longer than Rome.

that was nice of your wife to offer to do the scrimshaw. and when it finally gets there. will it take any more effort for her to do her part?

I can understand a distaste for the length of the project, it would be great to see one done every few months here...but between shipping, real jobs, full-time knife jobs, LIFE... a project like this is just going to take time.

No rush Bruce, in my shop making a living for those pretty little girls and wife AND Journeyman test knives would ALL come first :)

Just keep up your beautiful work buddy.
Nick

Ha ha ha, edit to point out that I'm not trying to say a full-time knife job is not a real job! :D

Good things come to those who wait!!!:D
Im sure this knife will be worth the wait...
just look at all the folks that have been putting their creative efforts into a piece that will be the envy of someones collection;) like others have said here, you have your priorities,
take your time brother...

GENTLEMEN,

After seeing this thread being started, as many a thread has started liek this, I asked myself what I could do to help the project along. So, and e-mail to our leader Kit turned this regular thread into an important thread! Now we can all easily get updates on the project, and, hopefully those who are doing work on the project will be reminded of it with this thread being at the very top of Shop Talk.

Regardless of what we think of the project, lets all think of ways we can help see the pass around bowie come to fruition.

Rhino, after a couple of years people lose interest.

There were a lot of people willing to volunteer.

If you don't have the time; don't volunteer.

2.5 years and I don't think it's half finished?

Didn't mean to start a war, I was just curious what had become of it. Bruce take your time. Paying jobs always come before charity.

it took me a bit to figure out what the heck a pass around bowie was..
then i got it.. not sure what you'all are going to do with it..
but its a neat concept....but, i have to agree..for a piece of work
to remain undone for 2.5 years is stretching the imaginaton a bit..
im not a contributor to this project..it was before my time..
but i think that if one party cant hold their end up with anymore
than "doing my thing comes first" and then OFFERING NO END IN SIGHT
TO THE DELIMA.. i would think its time for the person to admit they
cant fullfill their end and pass it on to another who can.. i say this because defending ones time used to support the family is a good and worthwhile task..but to just leave it at that an let the
discord continue with "no resouloution in site" isnt right...
its a pass around bowie..if you cant do your part..pass it around
to someone who can.. thats just what seems right thing to do.

I remember when the pass around idea came to be.
I don't remember a time limit/deadline.
If you can't stand to wait for your turn to participate...
Don't.
2 years or 5, when it is done it will be the best that each member could put into it.
& I'll buy a raffle ticket or two, whenever :D

Rhino,

It's not about a dream team ( ); it's about people having the time to work on it.

There were a lot of volunteers.

I would say if you can't do your part in one month; you should have let someone else who could.

My wife works too and she was going to work on it in her free time and weekends.

No one wants you to pass up paying work; just use some of your free time and weekends.

Suppose the paying work keeps coming?

How long should you be able to site on it to complete your part; a year?

Why volunteer if you don't have the time?

AS I said payin the bills come first in my
book. Making a living as a knifemaker is
hard enought let lone with people whinning
about **** that doesn`t mean a thing.

Bruce oh buddy you get it done when you can
an don`t worry about people bitchin about
it. I guess thats all they got to do.

I have said my piece an that it on this

I think this project was intended to be finished way before 2.5 years has elapsed. When this idea became a project on the forums, I certainly thought we'd see the knife in maybe 1 year. I also agree that if someone took on a part of the project but didn't intend to get to it in a timely manner, that sucks too. However, as I have said, lets see what we can do to help spee this project along. Complaining, fighting, flaming, or whatever may in fact be justified to some degree. I don't care right now. I just want to see this knife done. This will really be something!
