Pass around Bowie

To the best of my memory, there was never a time limit on this project. I had the Bowie last year. I received it a month or so before the Blade show. Between keeping up with orders and working my free time on knives for the show, it was in my shop much longer than I had planned. Did I feel bad about keeping it that long? Nope, since I knew the next guy would probably work on it in his free time like I did.

After some emails, I elected to Stick it at the top of the forum. I never dreamed it would turn into what it's turned in to. Now, I'll Unstick it. I'd rather not Lock it since so many knifemakers have been involved with the project and might want the update.

Guys, chill out. I don't think Darrell or I have locked more than 3 threads since we started. This one sure doesn't need to be the next one.

I am sorry that it has taken me so long on this project,I was not originally involved in this project but took on fitting the handle scales when the person that had it couldn't make the Ivory work,When I recieved it I also had to figure out what to do with that Ivory as it was peeling real bad,I stabilized it and then tried to fill the gapping from the peeling and had to wait for the scales to cure out enough to check them,They will not work at all.I was going to put some thing else on it besides the Ivory that came with the knife and I had asked about this awhile back and had no suggestions as to what to use.if anyone has a idea I will get on it asap..I will gladly donate some of my Bark Bone for the handle and use some that has enough white in it so it can be scrimshawed if that is still being offered..
Part of the reason for not getting it done sooner was I had a whole town of gremlins move in my shop for a few months and messed up everything in the shop I swear. Now i am trying to get everything caught up as fast as possiable, including paying my bills..
Again sorry I have had it so long..
Hey RGRAY..Are you in a position that you could put the handle on the knife so I can consentrate on my ABS test knives and Judging knives at this time,or anyone else...

Hey, I seen that knife a couple years ago! :)

The bark bone sounds great, and hey, whats the rush? Steel gets better with age! :D

I was the 2nd knifemaker to get his hot little hands (OK, my hands ain't little) on the now infamous Pass Around Bowie. I flat ground the blade. It was in our shop less than a week. That was a time when I was not so busy. Had I been busier it would have taken much longer depending on what I had to get made.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I agree with most of the folks here. Paying jobs come first. This whole project was intended to be more fun than anything else.

I happen to be patient enough to wait for the finished knife.

BTW Bruce, I vote for the Bark Bone.

Bruce, The infamous "Bark Bone" would look great. It would be your signature on it. This knife is getting better with age and will more than likely get some press time in one of the magazines. I know of no other pass around knife, with so many makers involved, it should make interesting reading. All the troubles just give it more character. I love a knife with some history and a story that goes with it. Take your time Bruce and do your best work.

Bruce, If you really want to put the handles on, keep it as long as you like. If you really dont want to mess with it at all, anymore ever, then I will offer to put them on if no one else wants to. I will not guarantee how long it will take me either though.

As far as I'm concerned this is a much more important contribution to the world of knifemaking. You've got to give credit where it's due. I know it's got nothing to do with the Bowie, but compare the "social good" of completing the pass around bowie with those tutorials, I mean, there's no question that the right choices were made, in my book...
