Pass arround library - "The Randall Saga" by Dominique Beaucant

Hey it is a book someone (Bruce donated) to the traveling library.
I read it and looked at the pictures - actually learned a little too.

To put a postive spin on it.
It is not that worthless and I apprecate any of the books that have been sent out by members for other members to read if they are interested.

Thanks again. Knowing more about the history of the book makes reading it a bit more interesting. I will make sure that I read other books on Randall knives so that I can get a better perspective.

I firmly believe that to know knives, a person must know their "history"...

To that end, I've purchased every possible book available (that I could find) on the subject.

Some of thes books came in multiple book ebay auctions...

As such, I have a few duplicates that I could "loan" to the traveling library...

The only thing is...."I want them back!"...say within a year of their "check out"...

Hi Melvin,
Some of us have contributed some books to share with members. Unfortunately all the ones I have given out are now MIA. Like you many were picked up on ebay.

I would not recommend sending them out unless you know the person or are willing to give them up. Being an idealistic mush head I was hoping folks would pass them around.

It sucks that members of BF kept some of the books. Or forgot about them?

Maybe we should have a thread for keeping a trace. When a book is passed arround, the sender have only to post:
"X sent the book Y to Z on mm/dd/yyyy"
and when the book is recieved
"Z recieved the book Y from X on mm/dd/yyyy"

What do you think?

I think that would be a great idea. Flavius has emailed me that The Randall Saga is on the way. When it gets to me I will let him know and post here so that everyone knows where it is.

Mel, if you are willing to send me the books of which you speak (unless there are too many to send to one person) I guarantee that I will get them back to you. :) As I have said I love to read everything about knives that I can.

Agree, when people get more than one book at a time it does take a while to go through them!
I kept the ones I received separate from any of my other books, so they didn't start to BECOME part of my library!

Also I have been signing and dating the inside covers to get a living history of where each book has traveled and who has had it, nice to know, also adding my location, city and state just to get a feel of where they have been.

I also like reading, and PLEASE people, wear a drool mask on some of these, as the pictures in some of these books are to DIE for!!! ;)

The sets of books I had have traveled a while ago, to two different people, not sure if they have moved on from them yet?

I have 3 of the Gun Digest Book of Knives, received from you a couple of months ago. Is there a time limit? I still am going through them, but I'll pass them on if there is an unwritten rule that I'm not aware of???

I haven't heard of a time limit at all, just that they....always a `They' somewhere ehehe, are worried that the link traveling library might get shut down if someone puts the books aside and forgets to move them along, I would look through them from time to time myself and didn't try to rush it! So I wasn't hinting that they were overdue, but only a reminder to keep them flowing...

Maybe someone else has a thing about length of time for the traveling books?

The bad thing it isn't like a novel, you don't just start at the beginning of most of these books and read through, so there isn't a real way to time yourself, they are more like Reference books? Books to wet your appetite as well as feed your knowledge!

My local lib. starts charging after a couple of weeks :D.

Our Library in town rents them out for 4 weeks at a trip with rights for renewal, but maybe a set limit of a month is in order?
That sounds more than reasonable? And will see the books start moving more often...Just make sure they are packaged up securely!

I think about a month is the right amount of time to be able to read some of these books. It took me about that long to read Ed Fowler's book and some are quite a bit longer. If it takes you a few extra days to get through the book I don't think that would be a problem. It is when it takes a few months that I think people forget that they have the books.

OK. I'm getting the hang of it. I'll photocopy some things from these and get them moving in the next week or so.
Thanks for the info.

Just wanted evryone to know that I recieved the book from Flava today. I will read it and pass it on to Gary Graley in 2 to 3 weeks.
