Groundrules for the pass-around
  1. Must have 100+ posts in the HI forums to be eligible.
  2. Must agree to post a report in this thread. Report should describe condition of knife as received, what you did with/to it, your thoughts on the knife, and condition as sent out. We are going to put years of wear on these knives in weeks. Pictures are great.
  3. Must be in the US (Otherwise we will get heavy shipping costs, delays, and may lose knives in customs.
  4. You agree to send the knife off to the next person on the list within one week of receipt. Knife is to be shipped in sheath. securely and safely packaged. You need to get the address of the next person on the list yourself. Use PM or e-mail if possible.
  5. No complaints if moderators rearrange the list order. We might do this to spread the knives around, to get particular feedback more quickly, or for other reasons. Moderators may flex other rules also. Work with us.
  6. If you meet the qualifications and are interested, post in this thread to get added to the list.
  7. Try not to trash the knives. No tossing them into fires, using them for throwing practice, battoning through rocks, etc. We want the next reviewer to have a chance to use and review them as knives also. Normal wear and tear for a hard-use knife is encouraged though,
  8. If you would like the reviewers to address a particular aspect of the knife post your requests here where the reviewers can see them.
  9. If you would like to discuss the ethics of kamis drawing inspiration from western designs please go over to the discussion thread at http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...nspired-passarounds-–-discussion-thread to do so. This passaround thread is not the place for that discussion.

Thats a pretty blade! Can I get on the list to try it out?

The Passaround knife #1 was waiting for me at the post office this morning along with my new 18" WWII. Got home about 25 minutes ago, opened the passaround knife with my folder then used the #1 to open the WWII. :) I'm going camping this weekend, either leaving this evening or tomorrow morning. Will have an in the field report about the knife after I come home. For now though here are some impressions and thoughts on it.

The bend in the handle reminds me of an old single action revolver and also some swords. There is a slight curve to the left in the handle, which makes holding it right handed very comfortable. Holding it my left hand is okay, but it just doesn't have the same feel as when I hold it in my right hand.

The sheath on this one is alright. Basic, some what stiff and holds the knife well. It's an inexpencive solid sheath. There is a partial welt that starts at the mouth of the sheath on both sides and only goes down about 2.5 to 3 inches. Near the tip is double stitched probably as a just in case. Belt loop is glued and stiched in place. There is double stitching at the mouth along with the welt for extra strength. The thread is a heavy duty Waxed synthetic thread that I'm guessing is nylon. Looks just like the black nylon thread that I buy from Tandy, but I've seen polyester that looks the same. Either way, the thread is good stuff. I prefer a longer belt loop (low ride) but thats pretty subjective. Some kind of Cross draw sheath would be even better then a low ride IMO.

I like the guard, at first I thought it was to thin, but now that I think about it, the thickness is apropriate for the dimentions of this knife. If the blade was 3/16" to 1/4" thick the guard would IMO need to be thicker to match asteticly. But as it sits, it works. Edge is thin, The edge came somewhat sharp, parts of it will pull at arm hairs and a small section with cut hair. But the edge isn't straight. It doesn't wave side to side, it waves up and down. Pics after my campout will explain better. Am going to sharpen it on my Arkansaw Wet stones before the campout. The waviness isn't bad, but it's there so I thought that I would mention it. My new 18" WWII is made by the same Kami and it's edge is perfect, so I'm betting that the Kami didn't take as much time to finish #1 because it's a Prototype per say. I have a Prototype from Durba that also had a wavy edge where as my production Khuris from him are perfect. I do the same with my Prototype sheaths sometimes. :foot: *After closer examination of the edge, I think the Kami spent to much time sharpening certain sections of the edge with the Belt sander. *

Mom brought home some fresh Vine ripened Stewing Tomatos. Thinking I'll use some for the Dutch Oven Chili that I'll be making this afternoon. Thinking after I touch up the edge of the #1 I'll use it to cut the Onions, Tomatos, Bell peppers and chilis for the Chili.

One last thing before I touch up the edge then do the chili, The fit and finish on the guard is okay except for the back. The guard is Brass has a nickel spacer then some more brass. Well on the back side where the spacers are below the guard, the fit isn't so great. The front behind the guard is sculptured nicely but the back just isn't. Guard to handle fit isn't perfect, the right side is a little sharp. Could be caused by a shrinking handle or a miss on the fit. I'll touch this up with a jewlers file and sand papar, so no biggy.

I must get off now, sharpen the knife and then make Chili. More info and pics later.

Here are some pictures of the knife to hold you guys over till I post the field review:

That is a beauty!! Can I get in on this one? I know I don't have 100 posts but I have good feedback from multiple trades on the forum if that helps, I'd really like to take this guy out to my camp at the swamp and put it to use, thanks!
