Passaround: Smith & Wesson FL2

Bill Mangel received it, but the very next day a custom that he had been waiting on arrived. So the FL1 did not see much use. And now he has sent it on.

Got the knife today. My first impressions were somewhat positive, it had a nice feel to it and the action when opening was extremely smooth. But...it looks like the torx screws holding it together were very close to being stripped out. I know there have been a couple of people complaining about them coming undone so there's been some tightening, but they shouldn't be stripping out already...Will give it a workout the next couple of days and let you know what I think.

Reading this thread convinced me into buying one. Not bad for a knife under $40.00. My model opens smoothly and locks well with no blade wobble in any direction. Since I just received it today, I can only give an impression. So far it's positive. One curious thing though. When I closed my FL2 I heard something rattle, so I checked to see if the screws were on tight and they were. What was making the rattling noise was the stop pin. It's a bit loose, but does not interfere with the function of the knife. I suppose I could it apart and apply some adhesive to the stop pin to keep it from moving. Has anyone else had this happen?

I too have noticed the stop pin rattle. It seems that the stop pin is just held in by pressure from the frame. Doesn't seem that its going to cause any problems though.

This knife is very easy to take apart and reassemble so I applied a tiny bit of Loctite to the edges of the stop pin, reassembled the knife and the rattling is now gone. :)

Is this still making it around? Who has it right now? Just trying to keep it going.

Would we say the impressions from the pass around crew are mostly positive or negative about this knife?

The only negative I see mentioned is the loosening screws. I have used mine a lot and haven't had this problem.

This thread has already convinced some to go and buy the knife, so I would say that that speaks well of it.

Well, I got the knife in the mail Friday, and have been carrrying it since then. I must say that I am really impressed with the quality. Very solid frame lock, and large, easy-to-grip handle. If you like the Cuda EDC, but need something bigger, this is the knife for you. Now, I would like a better steel, but that is just the snob in me, as the one used should work well for normal day-to-day use. I like the thinness of the knife, as it almost disappears in the pocket. I haven't owned the Camillus EDC, but I believe they compare in thickness.

I have used it a little bit, and find that it slices very well. I've used it for food prep, and it takes a keen enough edge to slice ripe tomatoes very thinnly. The pronounced recurve helps in slicing, as you all can imagine.

May have more thoughts later.

Lets bring this back up, the passaround is not finished yet. Would love to hear what everyone involved in the passaround has thought of this knife.
