Passing of Ed Fowler

Ed Fowler used to be very active on Bladeforums. I recall, April 1, 2000, Ed had started a thread telling us that he had found an original trade knife from the Lewis and Clark expedition and had submitted it to destructive testing to study its metallurgy. The forum went nuts for most of the day until Ed finally came back to say “April Fools”…

RIP Mr. Fowler. My condolences to his family and many friends.

i was reminiscing in my head. (a dark place sometimes) i could not help but think of a few lines from an old song. Ed passing, and then another close friend. long story short, i was looking for the light at the end of the tunnel.
Well, it's all right even if you're old and gray
Well, it's all right, you still got something to say
Well, it's all right, remember to live and let live
Well, it's all right, every day is Judgment Day
Well, it's all right, even if the sun don't shine
Well, it's all right, we're going to the end of the line.

So sad! He was very generous to me and my students. I wanted to copy part of one of his books for my social studies class. Rather than just copy it I called and asked his permission. He was more than happy to let me do it. He told me I could use any part of his books I wished. Such a generous person! My students benefited greatly from his writing. I've watched YouTube videos of him many times. We've lost a great one. R.I.P Ed.

I never got a chance to meet Mr. Fowler, but I've certainly read a fair share of his articles in Blade. He definitely had his own style and it's hard to look at one of his knives and not immediately know who made it. He certainly made an impact to the knife making community, and there's no doubt about that. He'll be missed!

We had some great conversations at Blade in thé early 2000s and I liked à lot some of his articles on Blade Magazine, specially one called “Sweet Dreans of Steel”
Rest in Peace.

Do we have any more information, such as cause of death and funeral service? I couldn't even find an obituary.

I live in the same county as Ed. There hasn't been any notification of his passing locally. I first heard about it on this forum. I've reached out to a few people who know him better than I do and no one has heard about any service. Everyone's guess is a small, private family service.
