Passing time in camp?

as it gets dark I cook my evening meal and have a good feed and clean up after myself. once everything is in order I like to stretch out in front of a warm fire with a nice cigar and a bottle of grouse scotch whiskey and have a few drinks. What I do is brew up a cup of tea and add a good slosh of whiskey to the mix and let it boil for awhile. Theres nothing like a few drinks after a hard days hunting or hiking to relax you and make you sleep like a log. I also read alot, various war history books etc. sometimes if Im feeling energetic I will practice knots and traps

Sunset around here is almost 6 PM. The temps are moderate, no colder than about 40F this week. I usually cook the evening meal between 4 and 5 PM, then sit and relax.
For around camp entertainment, I bring a good book, a bottle of Bourbon Whiskey, and my iPod full of Classical music.

I like to take a small SW radio to listen to the right wing whacko propaganda, it helps to keep the fires burning.

JD, Whittling, and a Small windup radio...oh and some Starbuck Via instant coffee...iPod iTouch with a few movies ripped via handbrake....works awesome!

I like to take a small SW radio to listen to

I bought one of those little ones that CountyComm sells, along with the coiled antenna. Wonderful! I liked it so much I bought a second one to stash (with a lithium battery) in my vehicle's BOB. It has a built-in alarm clock and LED light. It's a solidly made little thing that was worth every penny --and more.

I then bought a larger Kaito KA1102. I'll always have a SW radio... neat stuff.

Stay sharp,
desmobob

I made a super light travel fly tying kit. I tye flies until bed time. in the tent I listen to my Ipod. (jack johnson, ben harper, norah jones) I bring a small book or just photocopies of about 20 pages of a book. ( that keeps the weight down)

Hi PropThePolecat,
Thought i'd post some things i do in the evenings out in the bush - i like making bow and arrows out of local materials if i can, nearly always carry strong cord for this (you could make string but i'm no good at it) and even making arrowheads - making fish hooks - cutting leather thonging out of rooskin (or good local leather) and plaiting pocket knife pouches, maybe even plait a whip if i carry a whole skin and some extra for belly (can keep project in a bag) - make some moccasin's (never done this but it's on my to-do list) ...

Thanks for all the posts and ideas. Ive read them all. Much inspiration to be had

Btw, the days are getting longer now. Sunset is at 1618 now. Thats almost half an hours difference since i started this thread. :)

I read my Bible and reflect ( as good as I can describe it )

I listen to the land a lot too ...
