well i grind freehand, but my buddy has the shakes so i made one of these and tried it out and wow it does great.
i called him over and had him try one of my blanks, well you could not tell the difference from a pro of years.

I have been putting off building one of these for to long. Of course i will have to make it more complacated i do all my grinding free hand also but if this can get me better results then why fight it.

One question... does that rig allow the curve to stay perpendicular to the belt, or would the grind-angle change as it went around the curve (like on a hand-sharpening jig)?

Thanks for the idea V-6! I think I comprehend the grind on the curve. If you follow the spark around the curve and keep it visually in the center of the belt it should turn out...is this correct?

Thats a handy set-up. I would think you could put a nice back edge on with it too.
