It is with the heaviest heart that I write this, but our good friend Pat (pff) passed away earlier today at 3:25pm. I'm waiting to get info from his daughter Trish or his step-son Jay before posting anything else.

For those wondering, Pat didn't really post on the forum but was a long time member, and ran the #bladeforums.com IRC channel. For those knifemakers and collectors on the forum that have visited our chat, you'll know Pat was quite the character. He was a big fan of Randall made knives, having once had a collection in excess of 74 Randalls, he would always share in insights and help, generally with a degree of sarcasm and wit that would make PG Wodehouse proud.

I know the family has had it rough this year. Pat's son Chuck Fogarty, a knifemaker, passed away February 27th.

I really don't know what else to write right now, this is a person I've known and chatted with almost nightly for ten years. I'm just at a loss. But I wanted to let the forum know, and I'll update this as I get info.

Just a quick update, I'm waiting to hear back from the family before I post anything else. I left some details out just out of respect, not because I didn't know.

To the handful of people that emailed me directly, I appreciate that, but I was just another one of Pat's friends, post any kind words here, it would be more likely that his family would see it. Some of you didn't realize that I'm mjh215 from chat, like Pat I spent my time there and posted very to the forum infrequently.

So sorry to hear this. I always enjoyed when Pat would jump in on the chat. Sad day. Prayers for his family and friends.

He was quite a good and knowledgeable fellow and has helped me quite a bit. A damn shame. You will be missed!

Dammit.....just talked with Pat on chat last week. So sorry to hear this. He was good people, and I'll miss him dearly.

My thoughts are with his family.

MJ, thanks for letting us know. :(

Pats been my friend for 14 years. He'd been in a great deal of pain for the last 6 months due to cancer (bone, lung, liver) I promised him I wouldn't say anything about it. Like's been said, Chuck Fogarty died in Feb. and even though he wouldn't admit it got him pretty bad. He'd joke with Chuck, asking if he was trying to make a race out of dieing first.
I will miss Pat.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Pats passing. He told be a few weeks ago how happy he was to be going to blade this year. For Pat, Blade was a chance to see all of his friends and I had hoped to meet him and be added to that list.
My regards and prayers for his family.

We have lost a great man, his knowledge, willingness to share - I will miss him greatly. My prayers to his Daughter and the rest of his family.

Pat and I had been friends for about 14 years, from BFC chat.
Pat, didn’t say much, he didn’t have to. You knew when he did say something he wasn’t talking out his butt, and you knew that you weren’t the smartest guy in the room.

Pat loved Blade Show, he’ll be there this weekend.

Ed Fowler told me I had missed Pat on KTO chat and the he explained what he was facing. I asked Chuck if he thought it was okay to check in with his Dad, he said he would be fine with it. Then Chuck told me what he was facing

It was a hard email to write, surprsingly Pat’s reply made me feel better.
I’m going to share it with you here, with the hope it will make you all feel better.

median survival with agressive treatment is about a year with this type. some go longer of course.

I'm pretty much set on things for now, we'll see how it goes.

Main thing I need is no long faces, wailing or slinging of snot.
:D

Plenty of time for that later when I don't have to hear it.

In the meantime, I'm still buying green bananas.

Talk atcha later

ya, Pat wasn't one for funerals.

Pats email to you was very optimistic, he sent me the emails of the Dr.s reports. I'm surprised he wasn't in more pain, and even if he was he wouldn't have told anyone.

I think he was more resigned to his fate that he was optimistic.

Feel OK, initial chemo was a bust, going to Atlanta for an exam/possible treatment with new stuff this week.

ruff couple weeks; one of then radiation series I was doing nearly did me in. missed a memorial to chuck at the trackrock hammerin on sat

on ther mend someewhat! today!! ,l held down two good meals

don;t feel bad for me; IT is what it is....... My treatments are geared to maintaining my normal** lifestyle, not maintaining a pulse longer.

Have one doc that understands, the rest irt goes over thar heads.

** ;normal is a cycle on a washing machine (sign on the gate of an A camp up on the cambode border.) (and no, I wasn't there)

I know there was a period of about ten days when his throat hurt so much he couldn't eat at all.
It was a running joke with Pat for years where I would remind him on chat to eat.

R.I.P. my friend.
