Patang ( Tibetan sword )

Let's keep it legal if that's possible anymore. Thanks for input.

We do have a lawyer on our forum but he's a Texan where they often consider carrying guns and knives a necessity rather than a privilege.

Uncle Bill,
Although you can now get a permit for concealed carry of a handgun in Texas, our laws regarding knives have been very restrictive since Reconstruction, when the occupying Union forces felt somewhat uneasy about heavily armed ex-Rebels. As a result it's illegal to carry anything with a blade over 5 1/2", as well as a Bowie knife or dagger of any size. That's why I'm waiting for a kagas katne. It's the only HI khukuri I can legally carry

Hi Berk:

What happens if a Ranger stops you and discovers five khukuris of lengths ranging from 18 inches up in the trunk of your car. As I mentioned, I sometimes drive thru Texas.

PS: I used to visit a pal who lived up around Leonard. Trained horses and was a marshall, too. His pickup always had a shotgun across the back window, a couple of pistols under the seat, along with a couple of knives well over the legal limit. Could he get away with this because he was a marshall? Or was he just taking his chances?

Uncle Bill, Nevada is a "shall issue" state. If they can't find a darned good reason not to, they gotta give you the concealed carry permit. I don't have one. I don't carry. Now if you ask just how far away I am from the heavy artillery, that's an entirely different story.

:
I am with Rusty on this one and I am staying out of Texas unless I am traveling through.Too bad as I really like the East Texas piney woods.
I would probobly have one over legal on me anyway.

There is one place I used to walk where I still carry a big knife. If I go very far into that place, even with someone with me I carry a gun now.It is along a river and legal there though.

Uncle Bill, Rangers don't do traffic enforcement, so if one stops you he probably has a warrant and you're in big trouble

. The law prohibits carry "on or about the person", so khukuris in the trunk are legal. And shotguns or rifles are legal anywhere. Handguns and "illegal knives" are legal for commissioned peace officers, including city marshals.

Well, Berk, at least my pal was legal even if I wasn't. But I have been deputized on the spot before so I guess if it came down to hard tacks he could have sworn me in a bit late.

My guess is I must do something illegal everyday and don't know it. They tell me ignorance of the law is no excuse but it's the only one I've got. Here's a good example.

When I was going to college there was an old law on the books designed for horse and buggy days which stated one had to stop their car at the city limits and honk the horn three times before proceeding into the city. Everybody broke that law every day and the only reason I knew about it was some professor had researched some useless but binding laws as an example of crazy laws that could get you put into jail if somebody wanted to enforce them.

I guess I am an anarchist at heart.
