A fun and simple project and I enjoy making primitive styled knives. I think this turned out very period.

Patch knife

Blade; 4 inch antiqued saw steel

Bolster; poured pewter

Handle; Whitetail deer

OAL: 8 inches

Sheath; 8/9oz leather wrapped in rawhide

Thanks for looking

I love it! I'm a rookie, how did you get the petina on the blade?

Thanks all,

Steve, First I polished the blade then, I gave it a soak in ferric chloride. Then I gave it a scrub in the sink with a rag and my abrasive hand cleaner( should be a dark grey). Then I ended with a mustard finish and a rinse in hot water. Give it a wax after you wipe it dry. Thats it.

Thanks! How long did you let the mustard on?

Steve

I think it was only on for five minutes or so. If its not coming out the way you want its easy enough to take it back with a scotch pad or some 1500 grit paper give it a fresh scrub and try again.
